Loomis Chaffee Crew

Hi, I hope you all had a nice M10. I was accepted at Loomis, and I have a question…
I row crew and I have since I was 11 on a team (I’m very tall so they let me start early) and I know Loomis doesn’t have a crew team but you can row somewhere in the Windsor area. Does anyone know if their rowing program is any good? If the club Loomis students row at isn’t very good, I might consider a school like Kent or Berkshire more. Also, do many students from Loomis row or is it just a few kids?

Thanks!!

If you are a crew person and got accepted to Kent, well, have you seen the Kent boathouse? Do you know anything about the rowing tradition at Kent? It’s nice to have choices. If you have a chance to go to revisit days at LC and Kent, that might help you.

Not sure why you would even consider LC over a school with rowing if that is your thing.

Yeah I’m going to both revisits. I agree that Kent has an amazing crew program. It’s going to be a hard decision. @GnarWhail

Rowing is my thing, but I’m willing to go down in intensity for LC because I have legacy… I want to row but my parents love the family ties we have with LC. @Center

@pacothepuppy gotcha

Hi Paco, Loomis sends (and buses) kids to the Hartford Riverfront Recapture program. You can look it up on the web and go to the Youth rowing section on their site for details. It is not a Loomis crew team, it is a HRR crew team. They row competitively in the spring at lots of great events (also linked to their site through Ronin). My DD just got into LC and is also interested in crew and has a similar dilemma to you. I have some more details if you want to direct message me.

Hey, I go to Loomis right now and I can say that there are many competitive Loomis seniors I am friends with who row off campus. Im not a crew expert but I can say they’re pretty good (recruitable)

Thanks @hungrihippo for the input, any chance you could convince one of those friends to join our thread and answer some questions? Do those kids ever wish they could fill an entire shell and wear the Loomis name during races?

@hungrihippo Thanks! That helps a lot :slight_smile:
