LOOTING...would you do it after a hurricane?

someone made a thread about what knaye said in the HS forum. heres what i had to say about it...

-----in case you don't want to download it, kanye west basically say on air..."BUSH DOESN"T CARE ABOUT BLACK PEOPLE."

i saw this on tv and my i'm just glad i have evidence to prove to people how kanye really is (that being a self righteous and cocky rapper). i mean, his comment was just plain stupid. i'm not a republican, i'm not white (i'm hispanic), and i don't like or support bush in any way. nor do i think all was done to help the people sooner or prepeare new orleans better for a hurricane.

with that said, kanye's comment was just childish and uneducated. i mean, he's famous and should know that people are going to take his opinion as the possible overall feeling of other black people, which it is not. yes, there are other black activist and politician complaining that this is about race but other black activists have said that isn't the case. anyway, i think saying that they aren't helping as much bc people are black is just BS. i will say this though...i think if all those people in N.O. were white, then help may have come somewhat sooner or a bigger deal would have been made about it. but i don't think that the gov or military is "consciously" going too slow because they are black. i just think that if they were white, perhaps things would be a bit different in terms of how quickly things were carried out. anyway, it's hard to explain what i'm trying to say, so just forget the last couple of sentences....

back to kanye's comment. bush doens't not care about black people. bush is just an idiot who doesn't know what he's doing. it could have been white people or asian or hispanics down there and that wouldn't have made bush's decisions any smarter or different. maybe it would have made the overall governments decisions a bit different...but thats another subject that i failed at trying to explain.

anyway, kanye is just an ignorant black artist. and no, i'm not in any way saying he's ignorant because he's black. that's not what i mean at all. it's the fact that he's ignorant mixed with the fact that he's black that makes him say "bush doesn't care about black people." if he was ignorant and white he probably would say something like "bush did all he could."

----here's what i'm trying to say. i don't think the mil and gov are thinking "oh its just black people, we don't have to try THAT hard." so in that sense, they aren't going slow on purpose because the people are black.

however, if the people had been white, i think that for some reason the gov, mil, and media would have made a bigger deal about it just because of certain reasons i can't really explain well.

here's an example. if you see a stranger fall hard off a bike, you'd go over and ask if they were ok and tell them to calm down and not move and get help somewhere. but if you saw your sister or mom fall hard off a bike, you'd probably run as fast as you could to help them and panick more and do things more quickly and efficiently. you would do EVERYTHING IN YOUR POWER to help your family member out. so basically you aren't necessarily consciously discriminating against the stranger at all, but had it been a relative, you would have reacted differently in a better way. it's just kid of how you'd naturally react.

anyway, that's what i was trying to say. and i still don't think bush "doens't care" about the black people. given, he's not black and therefore can't connect with the black community or feel the natural bond, but i still don't think he doesn't care in a racist sense. i mean, if he doens't care that way, then he's racist, and that's just messed up and extremely sad. it'd also be one more reason for me to dispise him...

-----honestly, if the same line of action had been taken by kerry or clinton or nader or any other would be president, THEN we could accurately say "_____ doesn't care about black people." but i doubt anyother president would have reacted so poorly.

and i think the comment saying "For what its worth, I think Kanye had a lot of courage to come on live network television, ignore his prescripted lines and speak his mind" is just crap. what he had a lot of was stupidity and ignorance. i mean if i went on national television and said someing like "bush has a small thing and is gay", would you think of me as having courage?

but as nbachris said, bush just doesn't care about people period. he's an idiot. that's why he reascted this way. he may be racist, but i don't even know if he knows, or if he could spell the word for that matter.
