Does anyone happen to know if a school's unbalanced male/female ratio affects the social atmosphere at a university (in general)? Is it something that should be taken heavily into consideration?

On the contrary, Wellesley and Caltech are often regarded as the closest peers of each other.

I think the m/f ratio affects the social atmosphere a lot. I think a roughly 70/30 ratio can still feel fairly normal but beyond that it starts to feel different (bad).

My school is 2/3s female. It changes the dating atmosphere but other than that I don't see much of a difference.

Well, in college, dating makes up a large part of the social atmosphere (same with high school). In my case, I wouldn't mind 2/3 female, but 2/3 male....

Erm... my college is 60:40 (female:male). I don't think it affects things very much, unless you're a womens' studies major that is. I do have a male friend, however, who attends a school that's 70:30 (female:male) and according to stories that he's told me, that ratio affects things a lot. So I guess it's somewhere in between those two (perhaps at 65:35?) when the ratio becomes more of an issue.

My son attends a school that is 60:40 (male to female), but he says it looks more like 70:30. He is very happy with it.

I went to a school that was 75/25 male to female and it affected the social atmosphere, but not the academic atmosphere. Obviously, it was worse for the guys, although sometimes it was a little strange for the gals, too. I think 60/40 would be fine.
