LOR question

My daughters school does a committee packet and includes four rec's, 2 from BCPM (or BMCP, whatever that acronym is) 1 from another professor in her major, and her varsity athletic coach. She does have 2 more in her AMCAS "thing" ;) one of which is from her PI from summer research she did that was 400 hours. She got those 2 additional LOR's per request of our instate school. I saw this post on another thread by mmmcdowe and was wondering if she should send the additional LOR from her summer PI in addition to her committee letter?

"2 science profs, 1 non-science, 1 doctor, a research letter if you did research, and maybe another from another source for good measure."

So should she send the PI rec in addition to the packet, even though not requested? BTW, the summer research was included in her AMCAS as one of her top 3 EC's, so schools will know of it.

My D’s rule was “if they didn’t specifically say not to send it, send it”. I think she sent 4 to some, 5 to some and 6 to some, but her PI’s always went.

Thanks curm. I told her your response. She emailed her PI to make sure that the rec was not school specific, and it wasn’t. She will be sending the rec on to the 1000 schools (okay, close to it) that she applied to.

My DD did the same as Curm’s, sent any strong letter to any school that would allow it. The more chances they have to see you as a real person instead of a file, the better.
