Lose State Grant?

I have a state grant that is a good amount of money that I wouldn't be able to make for if I lost it. So I was wondering if I move out of state, would I lose the grant?

Will you still be attending the same school when you move? Which state grant is this? What are the requirements for receiving it, which should be on the ministry’s website?

State grants are for state residents attending school in that state. No, you wouldn’t get a state grant from - say Calif - to attend a school in - say - Texas.

Actually, I received a state grant to attend a school in another state. New England partnerships I guess. I’m just wondering if it’s common to lose the state grant if I actually move to the state I’ll be attending school at.

The website is very vague about the requirements but only residents are awarded them and I believe you need to be a full-time student. Would I still receive it because I was a resident at the time they ‘awarded’ me the grant? It was accepted a few months ago and it’s too soon for them to disperse it to the school.

That doesn’t sound “vague” at all. Each YEAR you are awarded your state grant. It sounds like this is for residents ONLY.

Is your whole family relocating?

It’s what I gathered from the info but it doesn’t say it outright. Yes, my mother is what counts and she would be relocating. Doesn’t matter about getting it next year, I just need to know if it would still be available since it was awarded while I was a resident.

Call or e-mail the agency in charge of the grants and ask them. They will provide a more reliable answer than would CC’s well meaning, but possibly misinformed members.

Do call the school and the agency in charge of the grant. You need to talk to someone who knows the situation thoroughly and can give you the scoop about the scholarship.

Thanks everyone.

I e-mailed them and they let me know that if I was a resident as of Jan 31 2010, I’m eligible for this academic year and if I move I just won’t be eligible for the next academic year.

If I try to get in-state tuition or benefits during this academic year, I would forfeit the grant because I can’t get legal residential help from two states for the same academic year.

Just letting you know in case anyone else needs help with this kind of thing in the future. :)
