Loss of appetite when away from home

You may have some sort of depression and could likely be making poor food choices. For the time being you will also lack essential vitiamins, you should try taking multi vitiamins and see if your diet improves.

Talk to your doctor for real help. Seriously

Bought some multivitamins. = ) My mom thinks it’s just anxiety. She says I’ve been that way since kindergarten. I guess it’ll go away after a few weeks.

Hmmm this is not too uncommon. I can remember, my first day before getting there, stopping off for breakfast and not eating too much. It is just nerves, even if you really dont mind being away from home, it obviously has some effect on you. But as one person was saying, college will soon become another home to you. If you don’t get better in a couple of weeks I would suggest you seeing someone. Otherwise just try to eat a little bit at a time, but Im sure before you know it, you are not going to have any problems.

I know this thread is old,but I’m currently going through the same issue. I moved from Europe to the USA for college, and among all the travel stress, homesickness, missing family etc…I just can’t eat.

Usually at home i tend to eat a lot, healthy and unhealthy…even though I remain skinny.
But since I moved to a new area in the US,it’s all gone downhill. I feel very hungry,my stomach is growling all the time,to the point that I just feel week. I try to eat something, but when someone mentions food it’s like an aversion towards food. I barely can look at it,not to mention trying. But the weird thing is that I’m really hungry, and not eating makes my bowel movements pretty awkward. Maybe it’s a homesickness symptom, because sometimes I have the feeling that I should call my parents before and after I eat,so they know exactly what, how and where did I eat. Probably because at home we ate the same things.

Honestly it’s kind of annoying, especially when you see people not having those problems. I probably lost weight, and it’s unhealthy to just eat barely 1 meal a day.

But,on the other hand I drink more water than ever. Seriously I can drink 1l f water per evening. It’s because Im afraid of dehydrating. I guess the food issue will resolve by it’self…hope sooner than later!

I was the same way. In fact my first semester in college I lost 15 pounds, but eventually gained it all back. I think its just because your in an unfamiliar place. Once you become more comfortable your appetite will return.
