Lost in the college search...

Need help just finding a preferably upper-ranking university that would take me.

High school junior

GPA ~ 3.8
PSAT 96th percentile (taking the SAT in March; Math II and US History later this year)

Senior schedule:
AP English Lit
AP Gov
AP Calc
AP Art History
Newspaper

6 APs total
5 Honors

Extra...
Newspaper 3 years (1 year in middle school)
Tennis 2 years
Swimming 2 years
Lacrosse 2 years
Animal Rights Klub secretary/VP 4 years

Fine with in-state/out of state, public/private
Forested kind of region would be ideal but it isnt a deciding factor for me.
Interested in business or journalism but I dont want too specialized a school.

I am thinking U Virginia, C William and Mary, Stanford (<doubt it though), or Carnegie Mellon. As you can see, the historical universities interest me.
But also UT Austin, Pepperdine, and Notre Dame...
And UC Berkeley would be a dream (second to Stanford), but again, I doubt it.

So may I please have your 2 cents? What should I shoot for?

All I know is Stanford and that looks like quite a reach for you. Not saying its impossible, kill your app and your essays, get the best recs you can, aim as high as possible on the SAT, give it your best. I’d say look at some of the Claremont colleges (you’re from San Diego so I assume you know of them), look at Tufts maybe, Vanderbilt, USC, UCLA, Wake Forest, BC, NYU, Case Western, Lehigh, the rest of the UCs… that’s all I can think of right now.

Michigan, Northwestern and Indiana.
