LOST! Intern in L.A SOON- Housing situation not going well PLZ HELP!!

You’re not going to have money to pay a roommate to do anything. You’ll need food stamps just to have food to eat.

You are being exploited by an evil faceless corporation that wants you to provide them with valuable labor at no cost to them. Don’t do it.

Fashion industry never pays its interns - the best you can do is hope for an internship in NYC or have your parents foot the bill. Finding one that will pay is extremely rare, and honestly, it probably doesn’t exist at all

If you have a choice between LA and NY AND want good public transportation, then NY is a no brain-er. Forget , forget, forget LA, especially of you are not being paid. You will be miserable there without a car.

I would agree that the public transportation in LA is not the best, but I would not pass up an internship opportunity because of it. Have you looked at rental websites such as rent.com, apartments.com, forrent.com, etc? Based on the location you gave, you’ll be close to FIDM so you’ll be near other students studying the same thing. I would search for apartments around there first.

I don’t recommend looking at places near USC because it’s not the safest area. Anything around UCLA is also probably too expensive and too far for your situation.

I suggest looking at places in Glendale. The neighborhoods are safe and I know there are apartments there that are reasonably priced. You could take the Metrolink from Glendale to Union Station ([Metrolink :: Welcome](http://www.metrolinktrains.com)).

What kind of hours will you be working? Will you have access to a bike?

Please do not be scared off by people’s comments about public transportation. My high school aged daughter took the metro into downtown every day for 8 weeks last summer. She enjoyed it very much and it was perfectly safe. After arriving at her metro stop she walked about 6 blocks to her job. She did the reverse in the late afternoon when coming home. She occasionally encountered another student from her school who was doing the same thing. Please PM me if you have specific questions about routes and areas.

I agree with the comment to check out sublets/dorms from USC students, as USC is downtown adjacent.

Viking- My school requires a minimum of 200 hours and 6 weeks…so I’ll be working around 34 hours a week.

The thing is is that this particular company in L.A would provide me more experience in a related path than any of the internships I’ve been fnding in NY which want

 1. A season commitment [which I can’t do right now seeing as how I am still in school and only have 6 weeks of summer open]
 2. Mostly focusing on showrooms, Marketing and PR [none of which I want to do]

so…yea. If things fall through within the next 2-3 weeks with this company than I will settle for NY MAYBE.

But as Lurker already said…being payed in a fashion internship is rare.

Thanks Viking also for the advice on Glendale. I actually just stumbled across something saying it was safe so I’ll definitely be looking there and steering away from those university areas. And I’ll also use those sites you listed. As of now Ive been really using craigslist only and 1/4 of people actually reply back.
