LOTE and advanced high school degrees

Hi guys! I'm a sophomore in high school. I currently have a 95 average, but it could be higher. I really struggle with Spanish class. I honestly hate it more than anything in this world, and my teacher is very bad. I think in that class my average is like an 82. The problem is that in my school, you need 3 years of LOTE to graduate with an advanced diploma. How significant, if even relevant, is the advanced diploma? Would it be better to only graduate with 2 years of language, but have a better overall average? I definitely want to be a part of a technical field, and have absolutely no interest in something involving language. Also, for other technical schools, would this affect my admission or chance of getting a scholarship? I am thinking of taking an elective next year instead.

Thanks in advance!

If you have no interest in it, then don’t take it. Going through courses you don’t enjoy just because of some award you’ll get demonstrates the exact opposite of what MIT looks for, I think. Spend your time involved in things you’re passionate about and will be thrilled to write about in your essays.

MIT is perfectly happy if you take only two years of a foreign language (see the [Common Data Set](<a href=“MIT Institutional Research”>MIT Institutional Research); only two years are recommended), but other top schools have different policies – you should see what the policies are for other schools to which you are interested in applying.
