Cousin wants to post from my CC again…:
“I don’t really compete in competitions anymore, so I have no awards of merit. That said, I have lots of board positions that show great leadership. How will this affect my application? The clubs I do don’t really compete in things so I didn’t have too many chances at awards”
This is so general. What types of colleges? Stats? Too many unknowns. If it helps, my D got into 7 excellent colleges, waitlisted at three with no awards on her app at all. She applied to mostly very selective collleges.
I don’t think having awards or leadership positions matter too much. What matters is what you achieved.
For example, if you were appointed president of a small club, that isn’t going to be as impressive as being in a club with no official leadership position and organizing a successful food drive.
Same goes for awards,if you aren’t part of competitive clubs that win competitions that’s okay. Join clubs that are of interest to you and make some sort of impact as a member.
In general, worry about your classes, grades, test scores, and recommendations. Extracurricular activities are one of the least important parts of your application.
well, extracurriculars are pretty important, but it’s not about what position you had, it’s what you actually did. Being a president of a club or something similar is meaningless unless you actually contributed something to somewhere or someone. Awards are just like verification that you put in hard work toward a certain extracurricular
Right, It is about accomplishments-in clubs or elsewhere. Creating new threads doesn’t count.
