Hello, I'm a high school senior, and I'm beginning my application process. My SAT scores aren't fantastic, but they're decent (1790; I just retook them and I feel pretty confident about it), and my ECs are ok:

Concert band (percussion) years 11,12
Jazz band (guitar) years 9, 10, 11 (couldn't get into the class senior year due to scheduling conflicts)
Gay Straight Alliance years 11, 12
Archery years 10, 11, 12 (don't know if worth mentioning; not on a team or anything)

My essay is pretty good, it's about how I used to be really homophobic, sexist, and racist in middle school, and about how I became comfortable with my sexuality (I'm bisexual) and transformed into the passionate social justice advocate I am today.

That said, my GPA is HORRENDOUS, a 2.3. My freshman and sophomore years, I cared little about my grades, and just coasted. Over the summer before junior year, I suddenly became much more interested in school, and signed up for 3 AP courses and a honors course (that was accredited at the local community college). Going from apathy and one honors class in my whole life to this was an intense change, and the workload was overwhelming for me. Within the first month of school, I fell greatly behind, and slipped into apathy. Challenged with both a total lack of drive and a strong desire to get good grades, I became very depressed. (I think I have Seasonal Affective Disorder, which might tie into that) With depression came apathy, and I fell into a vicious cycle of not having the motivation to do work, then beating myself up for not doing said work. Soon my grades plummeted, and by them I pulled out of my slump towards the end of the third quarter, it was too late, and the damage was gone to my GPA. At the end of the year, I failed two classes (Chemistry and AP English), and got D's in two others (AP US and Algebra II).

This year, my work ethic has not improved tremendously, but I am doing decently in all my classes. I'm taking 3 AP classes (English Composition, Modern European History, and Statistics - Stats and English are both also accredited classes at UCONN) as well as an honor course, accredited at my local community college (Human Anatomy).

With all that considered, do I have ANY chance of going somewhere decent? Should I take the SATs again to get a higher score that better carries my GPA? I'm currently looking at:

Clark University (probably my top choice)
Fordham University (I know how unrealistic this is, but I'd really like to go here)
CUNY Hunter
Indiana University
SUNY Albany
UMASS Amherst
Eastern Connecticut State University

I'm a white male living in Connecticut, and I intend to double major in Political Science and Women's/Gender/Sexuality Studies.

Also, if you have any recommendations for college to look at, I'm very much open to them.

Thank you in advance!
