My GPA dropped from a 3.0 to a 2.8 and now to possibly a 2.5-2.6 range. I knew it was going to take me a alittle longer then average due to my background and cirumstances but I was atleast hoping I'd be caught up by my junior year but now it looks as though I'd be spending 5 years and I'm not good enough to deal with a 50,000 dollar debt. I don't think I'll even be hired by anyone at this rate.

I had goals like getting hired by Boeing, trying out for a sports team, joining clubs, but now it seems I'm stuck doing nothing but lowering my GPA and ruining my chances of getting a good job.

I'm done complaining but I'm wondering whether I can do anything now?

Figure out how to obtain extracurricular, field work, laboratory work, internships.

Unfortunately, some of these require a high (3.0-3.5+) gpa to be obtained

Develop better study habits and get tutoring so that you get back up to a 3.0+

Do you guys think I should focus on catching up?

How about starting by stopping the bleeding. Find out what is causing you to fall behind and try and remedy the situation. Playing perpetual catch-up without identifying and remedying the underlying the cause is just poor policy in general.

My grades went up significantly once I joined study groups.

Not sure how to stop the bleeding. I tried studying more, going to free tutoring more often and going to my TAs and Profs more often but that only improved me by a little bit.

Studying more is not always the solution. You have to study well, and you have to do it as the semester progresses to get the most benefit. Studying more simply for the sake of studying more, especially when it reaches the point of cramming, carries with it no long-term gain.

I knew it was going to take me a alittle longer then average due to my background and circumstances but I was at least hoping I’d be caught up by my junior year … you don’t mention your problem ,but maybe you are on a path that is not for you . I would talk to an adviser . Perhaps a related field would suit you better .

My problem is that I’m doing bad getting progressively worse as I go on. I know I should not expect As every semester but I at least wanted keep my GPA at a steady 3.0 so I could get a internship at Boeing and places like that.

I’m already too deep in to switch to some other major. Related fields only mean another engineering field, and I spoke to my advisor he told me to do something like Material Science but I’d need chem 2 and chem 1 killed my gpa.

What do you think I should do to stop this bleeding? I’m honestly lost on what more I can do other than take the eaiser classes in my major.

You just have to figure out what is defeatin you. Exams? Homework? I can’t really tell you what to fix because everyone’s situation is different.

The thing is I know whats killing me but those things are what I’m weak at like time management.

I’m just worried I wont get a job that pays enough to help my family and payoff these loans.
