Idk…The SAT basically measures your reasoning ability, meaning it tests how well your brain can perform. GPA shows how hard working you are but there is no way to actually compare students all over the country in GPA. Colleges look for either an increase or consistency in test scores anyways so the “one-sitting evaluation” really isn’t a valid argument.

But some colleges are starting to make the SAT optional because they feel they don’t accurately tell them how a student will perform. And I mean, the ACT and SAT are completely different tests, so if they wanted SAT thinking from all students, they wouldn’t let them take the ACT instead. Also, what good is it if someone’s smart or can think well when they’re lazy? Why would someone take a 3.0 student that took cake classes and still did bad with a perfect SAT score when they could take the one that actually worked hard and got a lesser score?

Definitely go for top 20. Your SAT’s and ACT’s are pretty good and even though Ivies MIGHT not really work for you, don’t lose hope. Above average SAT’s + high AP scores and low GPA + heavy course load suggest there’s no grade inflation at your school and colleges will definitely take that into consideration.

Unweighted Class Rank should have no affect on college admissions, and many adcoms realize that and thus throw class rank away, because of an example as such;

My class rank is screwed because I’m academically superior to most of the idiots ranked above me -

this is what happens when you go to a school w/ unweighted class rank…

…and w/ people who realize that, and thus dont take any APs/accelerated courses…

…so even w/ my 4.0 w/ 11+ AP classes I’m only in the top 12% of my class

im in a similar boat, i have an 85 average but a 2300 SAT (1540/1600)
i just got rejected from Cornell ED ![]()
best of luck brownish90

Ew, everybody stop whining! Man, this thread is full of whiners. If you have a low GPA, you’re saying that GPAs are meaningless from school to school beceause of inflation/deflation, different amounts of rigor and competition. If you have a low SAT, you’re saying that the SAT doesn’t really measure intelligence or ability, and some schools don’t even require it anymore. Basically, whatever you’re not doing well in, you try to reason that away. Well, that’s a great approach to college, I’m sure all of you will do exceptionally well come decision time.

[/sarcasm]

How is your transcript?

If you have any Cs, Ds…top 20 (and sometimes even top 50, top 75) may be out of reach. Even with those SAT scores…it happened to me. (640 CR, 800M, 800 Math II).

^ except for the fact of class rank. Anyone with a brain can easily see how it can be scewed - especially unweighted class rank. Would some mental-■■■■■■ who took a remedial classes really be more academically qualified than someone who took all AP classes and got just .0001 of a GPA below him? Obviously not.
