Low GPA and medical school for different reasons

I am a recent graduate from University of Iowa. GO HAWKEYES! Up until recently I had not had any intention of going into the medical field so my GPA is nowhere near where it needs to be. 2.7... After years of research on my own I was able to start up a medical company. After talking to many investors and seniors in my field I realized I can really solidify my standings as CEO in this rough business field by going to medical school and putting my focus on research. The problem is launching my product is very time sensitive so I do not have years to go to post bacc schools or masters programs and then applying to medical school. Do you guys think I could get in if a medical school sees how serious I really am and that I want to go into further research. By no means am I saying medical school is easy and just a means for my gain I honestly feel I can further my education by learning everything that is taught and I am a deadly serious worker when it comes to my company.

I was also recently given a pretty substantial grant by the government recently to continue my work.

Any thoughts and advice would be greatly appreciated.

What exactly do you mean by “medical company”? Is it a device? Since patient care is not on your list of reasons (which will be a red flag on your app) might I suggest a PhD instead.

OP, you got some excellent advice on SDN.

No, unless you give the IP rights to the school. :)

Sounds like you should get a masters or a Ph.D if you don’t actually care about patient care and just want a graduate degree…

I would suggest that you go back to school and retake those courses that are important to getting into medical schools.

I know of someone who did that and then got very good MCAT score. The person was accepted.

I was told that the AC look very heavily at the courses that are prerequisites for admissions.
