Low GPA for UCLA/NYU/Northwestern

Obviously I’m really panicked about colleges since I just finished all of my applications but these were my top 3 choices…My GPA and SAT scores are definitely below par (SAT just wasn’t my test)

But really the reason for my GPA is because during my sophomore year I moved from Korea back to America and had to readjust to speaking English and whatnot…

I go to a private school and we don’t rank students or weight GPAs… I should also add that I took college courses over the summer at Northwestern, I am fluent in Korean, and I also take Spanish and Chinese. Oh! I’m also currently taking college credit courses at a local CC.

I had my Linguistics professor at NU write a rec letter for me, and I had him and a friend at Berkeley check my essay, they both loved it.

U-GPA: 3.5
SAT (highest): 1690
SAT (superscore): 1720

SAT II Korean: 640

ACT w/ writing: 28 (I took it twice and got the same score, total bummer)

Northwestern Grades: Japanese 1- C Linguistics- A

ECs: President/Founder: Equality Club 11th and 12th
Varsity Track & Field: 10th-12th
Spanish Club: 10th-12th
Varsity Cheer: 12th
Volunteer English Teacher: 11th-12th
International Club: 10th-12th

I have also been working at Old Navy for 4 months now.

The SAT Korean is in the 4th percentile, I would NOT submit that score.

UCLA: Reach
GPA and test scores not competitive. I hope you have some good backup schools on your list.

hahaha I actually did submit it…my Korean teacher was impressed w it

With that Korean score, are you sure you’re a fluent Korean speaker?

…Yes I am…I hold conversations, read, write essays and etc. I think it should be kept in mind that I’m not actually Korean either
The first time I took the test I got a 560 so it’s a pretty big improvement
