low GPA, high LSAT....

I'm a senior with a 3.05 GPA at Michigan, but I managed to get a 179 on the LSAT. What schools should I be looking at? Can I get into Michigan or Georgetown?

Thanks

how'd you get a 179? length of study / strategy please? did you take a course, etc

No your GPA matters a LOT. Why don't you try the Peace Corps or something after graduation then apply? That would help your chances a great deal. Your LSAT score inspires awe and jealousy in almost everyone though of that I am certain.

According to your official odds on the LSAC data calculator, your odds at Georgetown are over 75%. Michigan is a little tougher (closer to 50%).

Apply to the T14, aside from HYSCCN, you should have a pretty easy time getting into a couple of them.

it's going to be scattershot, but I bet you get into at least some. Apply to as many schools as you can afford (luckily, some schools should give you fee waivers). Think about good ways to package your gpa (either explained in an addendum or somehow worked into your essay, recommendations, etc...Anna Ivey's book might give you some ideas for this). If your major was something with a low curve, if you switched your major or transferred, if you were sick or had other personal issues during college, etc. these might help admissions committees see you as someone whose LSAT is more reflective than GPA of your capability for success in law school. good luck!

Thanks, stacy. Those are very good suggestions. I did transfer to Michigan, so I might be able to work that into my application. baller4lyfe:I didn't take a course or study -- just took it cold.

One should take everything said on this board with a grain of salt because people sometimes lie.

Oh yeah? Then how do you explain what you wrote in this post on April 28th, 2006?

I'm going to take the LSAT next year, but I've started taking practice tests. My question is, how difficult is it to get into Michigan law school? Is it easier to get in as an undergrad student here? Also, is it even possible for me to get in with my GPA which is currently a 3.45? All of the practice test I've taken have projected me to be somewhere in the mid 160s for the LSAT.

No, no, no Blaze, you've got it all wrong. Two people use his account. Those were his brother's stats. ;)

Oh my god. That's one of the most disturbing things I've read on these boards.

haha can somebody say "self-ownage"

Look for schools who are friendly to splitters (though your GPA is probably higher then most splitters). I know Northwestern is a very splitter friendly school (I saw someone with a 2.53/173 get in)

What a lame lie
