Low GPA? Ivies?

In a world where other Asians have your test scores/EC’s AND a high GPA, I don’t think you have much chance at the less mathy/sciency schools, sorry.

High Reach - HPYS, Chicago, Columbia, UPenn - most will not give more weight to EC’s/test scores at expense of neglecting GPA. If they do, you stand a better chance than your average Asian male compatriot.
Lower Reach - MIT, Caltech - you would have a higher chance if you had higher GPA.
In everywhere else provided you can pay.

Hmmmm, that’s a very interesting perspective. I was afraid that my relatively poor grades in sciences was going to prevent me from getting into any of the science-y schools, or at least make it considerably more difficult.

More opinions would be appreciated.

shut up. I’m sick of 3.7 UW being considered a low GPA. you want to see a low GPA? check mine out.

I’m sorry if I offended you. My GPA is low for the schools which I’m applying to.

Nah, not when Princeton’s average is something around a 3.7 or 3.8. Straight A’s are most definitely not required to go Ivy.

That average includes recruited athletes and people with non-academic hooks. I do not fall into either category.

So? There’s no split between successful hooked and unhooked applicants–there’s only who got in. You can’t assume that everybody who had a 3.6 or a 3.7 was poor, black, or did research critical to the eradication of appendix cancer. Some wrote outstanding essays, had perfect recommendations, or had a breadth and depth of extracurricular commitment that others didn’t.

Wiz, those people are probably in the minority. I’m pretty sure an unhooked Asian applicant with that GPA, regardless of anything else he/she does, is setting him/herself up for very likely rejection.

Bumppppppp

Bump bump bump

Oh, look, your courses are the same as mine, but your grades aren’t. Cut it out, Dennis.

Is there anyone out there like me who basically KNOWS they aren’t getting in because they lack the qualifications and are just waiting for a rejection letter?
