I have 1500 SAT, and a 21 ACT. i am taking the the SATs again in October, and i am confident I can raise my score to at least a 1650-1700. Also if i decide to take the ACT again i know i can raise that to at least a 24 also. Had a rough high school career, moving from Nevada to Pennsylvania.....completely different school systems. On top of that i had to move a lot and attended 3 different high schools(9th,10th,11th garde). My gpa is really low (2.7). I played volleyball, softball, and tennis. Other than that my ECs aren't great. I volunteered a lot with mental heath and the catholic church events. All of the volunteer work that I've done has been not through my school...so i was not sure if that time will be recognized my admissions officers? Also i held a job for 2 years. In any case I want to know my chances of getting into an out of state school. I've done a lot of research and i am not hoping for the ivey leagues or aiming extremely out of my range. But the closer I get to the time for applying for colleges I am really afraid that my only option is community college. Since i can remember my dream has been to go to a university. I'm just hoping that all is not lost. I really want to go out of state;MD, DC, VA, WV, NC, SC.

Schools like: 1st choice- UNC Charlotte
- Any of the UNC campuses
- Old Dominion U
- Towson U
- East Carolina U
- Briidgewater State U

Please be brutally honest....and tell me what you think about the schools I have listed and if i have any chances!

Thanks for the help :)

I don’t think anyone on CC has ever heard of those colleges.

Some of the schools i can understand if some people don’t recognize them. But you’ve never heard of University of North Carolina? UNC; Charlotte, Greensboro, Asheville, Chapel Hill ? I highly doubt that on the account of I’ve seen several threads talking about UNC.
If that is the case (no one has ever heard of these schools) then can anyone suggest some schools for me in the areas previously specified.

all suggestions
Thanks

What is your home state (right now)? What can your parents afford?

I think you are aiming too low.

Try a bit higher. Go for liberal arts colleges at least. You can atleast try to
U Richmond
Furman
Wofford College

Your financial info might help you to explore more

^ Unfortunately those are probably too high for reaches (OP is <25%ile).

OP, Old Dominion might work.

Are you still in Pennsylvania? US News has a list of colleges with the highest acceptance rates, but most are in people-strapped areas, mostly not in the states you listed. If you are in Penn though, over in Ohio Kent State has a very high acceptance rate while still being known nationally (mostly because of basketball and the tragedy with the National Guard). Since you seem to be interested in North Carolina have you considered North Carolina Central in Durham (the city Duke is in)? Your stats are a reach for Old Dominion and the UNC’s you listed, but match up well with University of North Carolina at Pembroke. You can put your stats in a college matching site to get more ideas. There are plenty of schools that accept people with those stats, but as mentioned, most of the better ones are rather far away from the east coast.

If you could tell us more details about what state you have residency in, how far you are willing to travel, what you are interested in (in terms of majors) and looking for, what you can pay, etc., it would be helpful.
