Low GPA Transfer to CUNY Hunter/Baruch from Rutgers NB

I had a really shaky first year at Rutgers and ended the year with a 2.02 GPA and 25 credits completed. Combine that with low funding and I'm looking for a fresh(er) start at a CUNY

I was wondering what my chances would be for a transfer to CUNY Hunter or Baruch for Spring 2013? Any other options for transfer within NYC?

I was doing an exercise science track with philosophy minor, but I'll probably be majoring in philosophy at a new school. My english requirements should be sufficient as well as my math requirements as I received C or better in both for a semester. I got a D in Bio 102 and Psychology 101. Everything else was C/C+ for the most part except for 2 B's in Scientific and Technical Writing (300 level writing class) and Ethics.

I'm a NYC resident and went to Brooklyn Tech for high school and finished with a low B weighted GPA (dont remember the exact number but it should be over an 80) and an 1850 SAT / 28 ACT. I was accepted to Rutgers, Drexel, PSU, and Stonybrook with those stats. Didn't apply to any CUNY.

Thanks!

Hunter college and Baruch are VERY different, both are great but are very different. Are you interested in sciences or business? Hunter college has great science programs so it would be great if you want to go into med school but you will have a hard time getting a job after undergrad. Baruch is sort of similar but in business. You can probably land a small job after getting your degree in Baruch but will have to get an MBA after a few years (I don’t recommend getting an MBA right after graduating because it’s a waste of time!)

What are you interested in? 2 of my friends go to Hunter college and say it’s very overrated…unless you plan on going to graduate school it would be a waste of time! Don’t get me wrong, it’s a great pre-med school but you won’t end up getting many jobs as soon as you get out of Hunters unless you do a course like Nursing (for which you will get paid very low right after undergrad).

I personally would recommend a college like The City College of NY. It’s a great school and has a lot of variety! You could go into the engineering field or the medical field, for example. They also have Masters and PhD for which you can do accelerated programs. It’s got a higher acceptance rate than Baruch and Hunters but it’s equally challenging and gives you a lot more variety. In all, if you are interested in business, go to Baruch because it’ll give you a lot of opportunities. If you are definitely interested in the Medical field and want to go to med school and do residency, go to Hunters. If you want to pursue something in engineering or just want a wider variety of courses, go to the City College! Of course all of this I’ve heard from my counselors and friends…I could very easily be wrong!
