Low GPA with High Everything Else

Hello! I’m about to submit my college Applications so I was hoping to get someone’s opinion on my college profile and if it’s reasonable for me to be applying to the schools that I am.
A rundown of my Stats:
-3.47 UW GPA, 4.5 W GPA
-12 AP Classes, 10 Honors
-34 ACT
-State Champion HOSA Biomedical Debate
-Top 10 in nation for a debate event in Speech & Debate
-11th/170 in a debate event at nationals for Speech & Debate
-President of my schools Debate Team
-3 National Qualifications for Debate
-4 State Qualifications for Debate
-International HOSA qualifier
-College Board Opportunity Ambassador
-In addition to these things I’ve competed in and won a few prestigious international debate tournament and I’ve been told I have really good essays and rec letters

With that being said, I’m applying to Boston College(ED), SMU(EA), UT Austin, Texas A&M, Boston University, NYU, GWU, and I’m considering Georgetown and Notre Dame as miracles

Does anyone have any thoughts on this? Because I’m terrified that my lower GPA will make me be denied everywhere

Where is/are your safety(s)?

My safety’s are Texas A&M and SMU

First off, are these schools affordable for you and your family? If they aren’t or if you need a competitive merit award to make it affordable, many of these schools become more difficult. Are you instate for Texas?

Second, you have some interesting awards and ECs. Are you looking to continue with Debate in college? Have you reached out to any of the programs to see if they are interested in having you?

Unfortunately, the weak point of your application will be your academics. I only had time to look at the stats for the incoming class at BU and your GPA is a bit low and your ACT is within the mid-50. My gut instinct says it will be the same at many of the others. If you are interested in continuing with debate, that may be enough to keep you in the “yes” pile but maybe not. The weakest part of your application is what determines reach/match/safety options.

Yes I’m instate for Texas! My plan is to continue debating in college, it’s good to hear that something like that could help me! When it comes to the financial aid if I get any that would be great but it shouldn’t be that big of an issue.

Texas A&M isn’t a safety. You would likely get in, but that’s only half the battle. There’s a good chance you might not get into the major you want. Employable majors are very competitive over there. If you don’t get into one of those majors, you’re stuck in liberal arts, which would be basically a waste of money. A safety needs to give you a reasonable assurance of your major, or offer flexibility if you need to change. A good safety would be U of H, Texas State, or UTSA.

In my opinion, liberal arts degrees are not a waste of money. Good lord, that statement would apply to hundreds of thousands of kids; and if we count recent graduates, millions of people. I don’t think such a blanket statement can be made.

Another vote for adding safeties. High score/low GPA creates uncertainty. What major?

Also make sure to use the Net Price Calculator for each school. A safety must be certain to be affordable.
