I am just beginning my junior year of high school, and I am really starting to think about colleges and my future. Though unfortunately my freshman and sophomore year I didn’t do so well.
I’m a reasonably successful junior show jumper, with intentions and means to go pro; and with horse shows every weekend and training most days I just never focused on school and my assignments just didn’t get done. With that said, I’m not trying to get into an Ivy League or any sort of prestigious college. I just want to be able to get into a good school.
So basically, my freshman year GPA was 2.50 and my sophomore was 1.73. (Cumulative GPA is 1.68) So far this year (about a month in) I am straight As and have been doing very well on practice ACT and SATs. If I keep straight As for all of this year, how much higher will my GPA raise? Is there anything I can do for next semester and next school year to help raise it?
With a low GPA and good SAT/ACT scores, what are my chances of getting into a decent school?
If you get all A’s not A minus you should get around a 2.7 tbh I think your bhave st get is CC then transfer. I’m not sure Colleges like seeing a 2.5 then downward trend then up.
If you can really turn it around and address that in your essays, there are schools that will like that about you. The tippy tops may not, but schools are admitting you at the red of high school, not the beginning.
Would it have been better if you’d done great your first 2 years? Of course. But it’s water over the dam at this point. Make your last 2 years count.
And one more thing… There may be schools that WL you to see if you sustain the improvement. Keep with it because if you’re still going strong at the end, it could get you off the WL. Or in the worst case, be the beginning of a trend as you start college (if you are looking to transfer.)
In other words, regardless of what happened the first two years, the next two matter more.
