So my title is referring to Industrial Engineering & Operations Research (IEOR). I know that it's one of majors in CoE that many freshman applicants don't apply to. In fact, I called the department the other day and asked them and they told me that only about 40-50 people declare IEOR as their major on their freshmen application. The majority of IEOR students come in AFTER their 1st/2nd year at Cal.

So if they have more spots available for IEOR than the total number of eligible applicants applying, would Cal just take everyone in (assuming they ARE UC eligible/don't have epicly terrible stats)?

Just wondering on how the UCs handle under-impacted majors. Thanks!

Download the report on undergraduate admissions, the relevant chart is on the last page of the document. Note that no engineering major in 2009 had an admit rate of over 25%, with some of the smaller departments admitting only a few students or none at all.

If you’re qualified, you get in. If not, you’re out; It’s that simple.
I don’t see how many applicants have applied re important. They can accept all of you if you’re all good or reject all of you if you all look under-qualified. I know the decision date is close and you’re nervous, but please just wait.

Wowwww… I have tons of technical ECs (engineering/computer science related) with around 2000 hours, strong leadership skills as demonstrated by my activities, but a **** low GPA (3.52 weighted). My math + science grades have been Bs (all honors/APs) but I received 4s on my AP tests. Think I can get in? IEOR btw.

I agree, the number of applicants doesn’t matter at all. They have no problems with taking in 0 people.

Based on that GPA. AP and those Bs… I’m going to say no. I’m sorry. Unless your ECs were fantastic (IMO, Intel, USAMO winner or sth like that, haha).

I have to agree with Eloriel, unfortunately.
