i’m a junior in high school and i was looking around for summer internships, but they all seem to be VERY VERY expensive and i come from a poor immigrant family. I live in columbus currently. i have a good gpa and etc., its just i cant afford any internships i find and i love medicine with a passion. do you guys know of any cheap or free medical or neuroscience internships? maybe even law? i just need an internship or even an oppurtunity to volunteer abroad. just any thing tbh. its sucks not being wealthy and privledged. =((
plz excuse my spelling
Look for internships with the word “stipend” and include that in your Google searches. Volunteering abroad is always going to cost you at least the plane ticket. Why are using the words “free” or “cheap”? I doubt there’s any legitimate internship opportunity that’s making you pay. They’re going to overwhelmingly be “unpaid”, with a few being “paid”. As a junior in high school, your internship opportunities are going to be limited because you’ll be competing with undergrad students who have actually taken courses in their field. You haven’t. Instead of bemoaning your lack of “wealth and privilege”, look into summer jobs, as you’ll likely rely on that income when you’re in college. Best to start saving now.

HS students are NOT expected to have done internships, as most of the meaningful ones are limited to college students.
-
Except for government internships, unpaid private sector ones (w a few exceptions) are illegal.

the “meaningful” internships held by my S’s HS friends in NY were pretty much rich executive parents swapping their kids w their rich executive friend’s kids.
In general, you should not be paying for internships.
