I realize my SAT is really low for Rice but will being a URM help and if i write a killer essay?

You are a high school junior, correct? You still have time to study hard for the SAT and take it again at least once. Also study hard for the ACT and take it. As mentioned, some people do better on one test or the other.

You didn’t mention AP scores (if tests have been taken), but you’ll need 4’s and 5’s in order to get credit at Rice.

Are you from Texas or somewhere else? If you are from somewhere else, your chances of acceptance are a little higher.

You should look into taking more AP tests. I felt that the AP Scholar awards really helped in my application.

TBH, no one wants to say it, but being an URM helps A LOT. That being said, you can’t slack if you want to get into Rice. Retake the SAT for a 2100+ score and look into what SAT Subject Tests you want to take. Those should be 700+ scores. As long as you work hard, you should be fine.
