low ssat score

PhotographerMom is correct. Sometimes the best way to learn is to shut up and listen. Excuse my crude language,I feel that it needed to be said that way.

BTW mrnephew, BHADES is correct. The Director of Admissions at a HADES school even stated that they would accept someone with a 55th percentile if their math score and grades are high. Mrnephew, I think you misunderstood BHADES’ point. He is correct in stating that on CC, way too much emphasis is put on the SSAT score. I have friends who scored below-average on SSAT (under 50th percentile), yet are currently extremely successful at second-tier schools. The SSAT is not everything. And posts like yours, mrnephew, are teaching people that everything relies on that test. Though it is used to compare applicants on an “even playing field,” it is nowhere near fai. People have been prepping for this test for months or even years. They definitely mess up the percentiles for others. The SSAT is definitely not worth anywhere near 50% of you stats. Your essays and recommendations are WAY more important. Please don’t perpetuate these false beliefs.

The SSAT is definitely not the determining factor, but it does hold a lot of gravity in the admissions process. The top tier schools need students to keep their statistics high, especially their tests scores. However, don’t stress out over it too much – but do take it seriously.

Not saying that, but my point is exactly what waiting4march10 stated above. SSAT’s are very important, and I believe that it holds more influence than grades, according to the interview with an AO at one school, because grades can be either inflated or deflated.

However, I agree that SSAT’s are usually not the determining factor, although they could be.
