So, I remember Collegeboard had a little blurb on their website about SAT averages being lower for this year's test takers...and from what I've been hearing, sounds like a lot of people are unhappy with their scores to the point of being shocked...and to the point of questioning the validity of their scores......(especially the essay scores)

Ok, so what have you guys heard? Thoughts? Is this true/false?

They say that the scores have been lower because people aren't taking it as many times as they used to and re-taking generally gets you a better score.

Average scores are definitely down a bit. Some speculate that it's fatigue. The extra 45 minutes are doing people in. And I imagine that starting with the essay isn't very helpful - especially if you feel you didn't do well on it.

Collegeboard should know that the reason y we aren't taking it as much any more is because it's so god DAMN long!!!! i've takin it twice, jan and june(im a junior) and i know that im def. NOT taking that **** again. with the writing section, it's even longer!!!

i scored much better on everything EXCEPT math which is the only subject i studied for...my score was exactly the same
so something strange is up
but i got a 12 on essay i think they're easy

I just wish they gave longer for the essay. I'm telling you, left-handed people cannot write clearly AND quickly!! I can only ever get like 1.25ish pages.

" just wish they gave longer for the essay. I'm telling you, left-handed people cannot write clearly AND quickly!! I can only ever get like 1.25ish pages."
that's a good point

however, i think most of the the excuses people make are ********
it's a 4 hour test, you get breaks, ap tests are often just as long or longer
if you get tired after 4 hours of filling in bubbles, you need some serious excercise
"Maybe if they scored the tests correctly the grades wouldn't drop..."
i hope this is sarcasm, because the misscored tests would not affect an overall average by more than a point, assuming college board was retarded enough to count those in the average in the first place

I agree. The SAT is a horrible standardized test anyway. The ACT is a much better alternative. I'm a smart person. There's absolutely NO reason why I should be getting a 660 on math. That's totally bogus. I got an A in precalculus. I deserve a higher score.

There's many reasons as to why the SAT average is lower this year. In any case, I personally didn't find the SAT to be too challenging. As long as you practice from an SAT prep book, you should be fine.

^^
Grades in school doesn't always dictate what you score on the SAT. When your school gives out an "A" it could "B" in another school. Like I bet if I took algebra 2 H in another school I might get an "A" instead of a "B" at my school. On the other hand my english class gives out "A's" like money... My "A" may mean a "B" or "C" in your school. It depends of the teachers... Good schools have bad teachers as well and vice versa.

I agree with that. Grades indicate how well you did compared to your peers at your own high school. The SAT shows how well you do compared to your peers on the national and international level. Obviously, some students are at a disadvantage due to a lack of resources or their high schools.

They're "predicting" that SAT scores for 2006 will be lower.

"Based on scores through the January 2006 administration, we are currently estimating a decline of 4-5 points across the Critical Reading and Math sections combined, as compared to last year's full cohort.Once scores from the April 2006 test are analyzed and included, we expect that 2006 cohort score averages could show a small additional decline." - Collegeboard

it's equally probable that Collegeboard will score it wrong TWICE. Who knows? Collegeboard won't be able to regain what little credibility they had in the first place.

I got a 770M and I think that it has nothing to do with math smarts in school. I generally have gotten B's in math classes throughout high school. SAT is logic, not real math. I was quite amazed at how well I was doing on on it. I never considered myself that great at math. However, back in the day, when I was in in junior high, I took some test that was taken in 8 states or something. I got the 99th percentile on it. I think that was the same deal. I just happen to be good at SAT math and would not say the girl next to me in math class who got a 650 is worse at math than me.

Finally a voice of reason; people keep telling me that if you do well in school then you will automatically do well on SAT math, which is not the truth. I got a 670 and I've gotten straight A's in all my math clases, including honors precalc this year. I'm studying Calc over the summer, but this won't help me for the SAT at all.
