Lowest

Hey!

I was wondering if anyone knows what the lowest gpa admitted into Boston College was? I’ve been looking around and have only found what they call their average. There has to be info somewhere

Not likely.

In practice, schools do not release highest or lowest anythings. They give the middle 50% ranges because that’s a far more realistic view of what the standards for admissions are. Saying that a school doesn’t accept anyone with a GPA below, for example, a 3.7, is extremely unforgiving, because it doesn’t take into account different grading policies across the country (and the world, for that matter). It also doesn’t reflect the rigor of a student’s record (getting a 3.7 in the lowest level classes and 4 study halls a day, vs. a 3.7 in all APs/IBs/honors courses) or an upward trend in grades (a student who began high school with a 3.3 but worked up to a 4.0, giving them a 3.7 cumulative GPA, within the 3 years will have different stats from a student who consistently maintained a 3.7).
Believe me, I wish (and I’m sure all of the other CCers waiting for their BC letters would back me up!) there was a magic number to be admitted. But, if you put yourself within or above the middle 50% range, the best you can do is hope.

It’s different for every school. For example, the number of students that applied (and were accepted) to BC from my school district over the past five years had a mean unweighted average of 94. However, one student with an 86 average was also accepted.

I love hope, because that’s all we got right now! So here’s to hoping all!!

ibnhf, that’s what my friend keeps saying! Every time he can tell I’m stressing, he says, “What is wrong with you?! Stop stressing, it’s out of your hands. The only thing you can do is hope, THAT’S IT!” I need some tough on occasion love I guess :)
