What is with the saltiness on the BC forums?

I see that people are telling others that their GPA is too low to get in with an 3.6 GPA or something in that range. kinda makes no sense to me. My schools average getting into BC is an 87. I go to an all boys private school. Also the mid range for BC is 1920 - 2135. So why are people saying that a 2020 is way too low? i dont get this saltiness cuz i fall in the B plus and midd 1900s SAT range. Does reach school mean that you match with the bottom 50 admitted but does not mean that you are ensured admission with those stats. so what would a 50/50 be for BC and what would a safety school be? really all this is strange to me! I LOVE BOSTON COLLEGE I NEEEED TO GET IN! also another question…how much does being hispanic with the national hispanic recognition help you for BC? sorry for rambling im just confused.

^^

re: GPA…approx. 90% of all matriculants were in the top 10% of their HS class, and a 3.6 generally will not place one that high (in a typical HS). Since a transcript is the most important factor in admissions, being outside of the top decile makes any top 30 college a reach (unless you attend a nationally-recognized HS, such as Thomas Jefferson in Va).

Re: test scores…every year there are 2200’s and 33’s who are wait listed/rejected.

If you have the numbers to be competitive, a lot.

Good luck.

it seems though that my high school may be recognizable by colleges. as i said 87 average and everyone above a 2100 from my school got into BC. my private school is a small one in maryland with about 320 kids. i have 80 in my grade. im sorry im just so worried i did well my freshmen year, bad my soph year, and ok in my junior year so far. So another question. how much will the 1st quarter/semester by taken in by colleges. I have ton of ECs too and i want to play in musical ensembles in college. that taken in consideration? I dont want to give my stats yet until senior year. Should i apply EA or RD?

Every college will look at senior grades, since they supposedly represent a rigorous schedule, hopefully with several AP courses. How much weight they place on senior grades depends on the app reviewer.

Dunno how much a music interest/major is differential, sorry.
