Hi. I’m a junior from a Jesuit high school in Portland. I’m looking to double major in Journalism and Digital Media at LUC. I took a tour during the Winter and I absolutely loved it. I was wondering if anyone could give me my chances.
Stats:
3.28 GPA (Unweighted)
29 ACT (Looking to get a 30)
No AP or Honors courses
ECs:
Lettered Junior year in the Theatre department and lettering Senior year.
Started a Film Appreciation Club beginning of Junior year.
Ambassador of Unity (LGBT+ Community) Club.
Member of the International Thespian Society since Freshman year.
Taking an Ecuador Immersion trip for service during Spring break.
Had a job from end of Freshman year until beginning of Junior year. (Place shut down)
Applied for a Journalism summer program at LUC.
If I need to add any extra information please let me know. Thanks!
Hi I also applied to Loyola. To me your biggest weakness would be your school academics as your ACT is at the 75% percentile at Loyola. I’m really unsure if that would negate your GPA and especially the fact you didn’t take any honors or AP courses. What is your weighted GPA? In any case don’t be disheartened by what I’m saying because I still think you have a good chance. Your EC’s are also great and relate back to your intended major, so that’s a plus.
Weighted GPA is a 3.7 out of 4.0. How well will getting a 30 composite for the ACT improve my chances? Does coming from a Jesuit high school give me an upper hand? I’m still really anxious about getting in.
I wouldn’t really know. It’s one point but 30 does look much better than 29. I think if you can get a 29 you could get well above 30 if you really tried. Aim for a 32 and that will really help your chances. I think you coming from a Jesuit high school would make a really small difference in your favor but I really have no idea. It does open up some small scholarships for you though should you get in. Just send in your application, hope for the best, and write your heart out on your essay.
@ubatss you’re going to be fine! Honestly! One point on the ACT won’t make the difference. I also come from a Catholic high school (in the Chicago area) and honestly from what I hear Loyola isn’t too picky for you to stress out over it. Even without APs or honors your stats and ECs look like a good fit for loyola! Put together a good app and you’ll be fine!
