Loyola (Chicago) or U of I for Statistics?

While I know U of I's statistics major isn't phenomenal, I really want one of my majors to be Statistics. Looking at the online curriculum, they look pretty similar. But does anyone have any insight on this? How are the math departments for both Loyola and U of I? And is it safe to assume Loyola's math department is better than DePaul's?

Thanks.

…What is U of I? Is that Illinois - Chicago or Urbana-Champaign?

If you really are that concerned about the strength of the program, you should probably look at some other schools.

Why don’t you look at other schools in the area? UIUC, Ohio State, Indiana - Bloomington, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Iowa?

Also look at states with reciprocal tuition agreements with Illinois

If you are talking about the Champaign Urbana campus, it should be a no brainer decision. UIUC has a phenomenal world class statistics department which blows Loyola Chicago out of water. It is extremely stupid to even consider Loyola here.

If you are talking about the Chicago campus, I would probably go with Loyola Chicago because UIC very poor in almost everything except nursing.

Sorry guys, I meant UIUC.

Zonlicht, thanks for pointing out some of those schools. I’ve ruled out Michigan and Wisconsin due the cost, but you’ve gotten me interested in Minnesota, Ohio and Iowa.

I assume you meant the University of Minnesota - Twin Cities, but do you know anything about Minnesota State - Mankato? I looked up their Statistics program and it looks really strong.

For the most part, you’ll be well served at any state flagship school.

Interesting how Cal is both #2 and #17.

Oh and do not go to Mankato. U of MN is 100 times that school.

But do you know what Mankato’s reputation is? I’m surprised because I’ve never seen a stats program that looks so well-developed. That being said, I know nothing about the faculty. Because if the stats program is excellent I want to consider it due to the cost of attendance being so low, especially since I get reduced tuition due to being an Illinois resident.

US News decided to list both Statistics and Biostatistics at Berkley as two different departments.

Harvard is also listed twice for Statistics and Biostatistics. Same for UW.

Minnesota is listed for Statistics and Public Health Statistics.

There are probably others.

The Mankato rep is pretty poor. It’s below most public or private universities in MN, I can assure you.

Zonlich - thanks for the clarification.
