Loyola Maryland vs. U of Miami

Hi, I'm a senior who's in the midst of making her decision. I've been accepted to both universities and I can't seem to come to a conclusion of which school is best for me. I pln on majoring in biochemistry while taking the pre-med track. I spent 10 years in the same small private school and I hated the social life. The only advantage was being close with teachers. My two main goals for college are to get accepted into a good med school and having fun. Loyola has ties with Hopkins and also has gorgeous dorms. I just fear the cliquey social life that comes with a small school. People tell me that Miami isn't good for med and I'll just get caught up in the party scene. I just need some outside advice (not from my parents). Thank you!

Conventional wisdom is that getting into med school is all about GPA and MCAT scores; I doubt that the reputation differences between the schools will amount to much. So a major consideration should be deciding which place will put you into the best position to succeed in the classroom.

As for partying, it exists at every school, the degree to which you “get caught up in it” is really up to you. One of the great lessons of college is to learn the limits of your abilities; part of that is knowing when to stay in and study and when to blow off steam.

Since your going onto med school I’d recommend going to the school that leaves you least debt-ridden. Second, contact the admissions office of each school and see what statistics they can provide you on medical school placement; most places have it readily available. If one school is dramatically better at it then you’ll have your answer.
