Hi CCers... this Loyola thread is pretty quiet, but I thought I'd ask my question nonetheless: I'm interested in knowing Loyola's record on financial aid and meeting need. According to College Board, they meet 80 percent of need. I'm interested in individual accounts of how the school matches up to other Chicago schools. I'm also interested in the Jewish community (is there one?) here or nearby. Thanks!

There is a jewish community not too far off and Loyola is great for merit scholarships. I got offered $40,000 over 4 years.

I got offered $5,000 scholarship per year for 4 yrs. +5,000 in grants but that's screwed up, seeing as Loyola costs around $35,000-$40,000 per year. So we woulda still had to pay them 25-26,000 per year.

Instead, I chose Illinois, although I didn't get any real financial aid, it still costs just around $18,000 per year.

This was last year too, which kinda shows how cheap Loyola is. And I got early decision from Loyola too lol.

There's lots of info about Jewish life on campuses (if not on Loyola's grounds, perhaps nearby at another college?) by typing in the individual college name on this website (Hillel directory of Jewish life on campus), or use their geographical approaches. Hillel covers all movements of Judaism.

or this from Chabad:
www.chabad.org/centers/campus.asp

or contact your movement's website, and look for the nearest synagogue or Jewish community center...
for example if you're Reform:

if you're Conservative

if you're orthodox, please google up Orthodox Union
if you're Reconstructionist, google up the word Reconstructionist
