Yea your financial aid is not the same for all 4 years. That should be a major consideration.
One more thought for OP or anyone else wondering about transferring to Ross.
There are a few other options. One is the Ross minor in business coupled with Econ major. You have to apply for the minor as well, but there may be more spots/less competition. Sorry, I don’t have stats on how many are admitted. But the combo of an arts and sciences background, econ coursework, and enough business to get a grounding is powerful.
Another program to look at is Organizational Studies. You have to apply here as well, but it is a great multi disciplinary approach with enough flexibility to tailor it to your interests.
Finally, there are Ross courses that you can take even if not admitted into the program. You may have to wait for an opening or ask permission of a professor, but it can be done. Even if you only take 4 or 5 classes it is worth it.
I’ve recruited at Michigan from all three (Ross, Org Studies, Econ) and have been pleased with candidates from each area. My bias here isn’t Michigan vs OSU, but I admit I lean toward a carefully crafted LSA program with business minor. If it does turn out to be cheaper than OSU, then take it and RUN.
OP: If you do go the marketing route, you can certainly combine econ, communications and some business courses into a very compelling resume. Add in some technology (digital media, etc.) and internships…this combo from Michigan would serve you very well!
Now I have to go help my own D flip a coin since she can’t decide between her final two choices
p.s.- Okay I’m little biased. Go Blue. But I would have told you OSU if I thought it was better for you. Doesn’t seem like it is. Good luck!
@hugebig10girl See this link to find out more on paths using LSA with credits from Ross. https://michiganross.umich.edu/programs/non-business-undergraduate-electives
I was not accepted to Ross, but I have still decided to enroll at UMich. I believe after reading through everything and speaking with some folks that this may be an even stronger way to go.
What would you do in my situation? I have been accepted into BC’s CSOM and UMich’s LSA (I wasn’t aware of the preferred admit program at Ross). I am unsure what my cross campus transfer chances at Ross would be.
Stats in case they are relevant:
SAT: 1510
Unweighted GPA: 3.82
Weighted GPA: 4.3
In high school I played varsity golf, quiz bowl where I won some awards+regional tournaments, LD debate and had some business extracirriculars-i.e I interned at a solar energy company.
Thanks in advance!

If you want to be guaranteed a spot in a business school and that is what you want to do then congratulations on your admission to BC. If you didn’t preadmit to Ross then it’s a crap shoot to get in. Don’t live with regrets.
@Salessandro3 Your HS record will have no relevance when it comes time to apply for an intra-campus transfer to Ross. They’re interested in your college GPA and the essays.
I realize that my point is that based on my academic record would I have a realistic shot at Ross transfer or did the people that are able to transfer into Ross all have like 4.0 GPA/ 1550 SAT in High School? I’m just trying to gauge my shot at getting in.
@Salessandro3… There are very few spots for transfers like 100. That is including people that want to transfer internally, which is a lot! . It is extremely competitive. The question is what will you do/major in if you are not accepted and how will that affect your life going forwards? Many people go into business per se at Michigan without going to Ross. You are already accepted to a great program. Can you live knowing that you were accepted to BC business program and you might not have a shot at all at Ross?
Only you can answer your questions this.
@Salessandro3 No way to predict. At all. It’s a fools errand to try to gauge your chances before you’ve started at LSA. There really is nothing special about Ross. Except that their career services are excellent. But I know many LSA students who have the same or similar internships as Ross students. You do not NEED to go to Ross to have the same exact career a Ross grad would have. It’s not the same as wanting to be a doctor, so you HAVE TO go to medical school.
