LSAT Prep with Khan Academy?

My D tells me that Khan Academy will start prep materials on their website for the LSAT. I can’t seem to find any news on this. She may be interested in law school at some point but is just a first year (freshman) at UChicago. Does anyone know anything?

even if they do start LSAT prep, your D should not be a guinea pig. Just bcos they open a website doesn’t mean it will be any good.

LS costs hundreds of thousands. A set of prep books from one of the long-term publishers is only a few hundred dollars. (Manhattan is my fave.) Your D will have to do all of the prep herself anyway, so an in class course is probably not worth it, unless she is a big procrastinator. (But then not sure she’d be at UChicago if that is the case.)

Why not use a tried and true source of materials and let others experience the new stuff.

In the meantime, she’s a first year. Wait four years to decide.

Thanks. She just really liked the Khan Academy videos actually for all types of subjects during high school. She did some research as well on her own and I’ve been helping a little. She got some of the Bible series and LSAT’s released tests to work on buy hasnt really studied. The reason for the early start is to try for a high score for LS scholarships. Without much prep, she’s scoring in the 170’s but not duplicating every possible condition during a real test. Still not sure about the LS thing but she loves the Logic Games part of it.

Wrong, wrong, wrong.

The ONLY early start is to earn A’s, and lots of 'em. LS admissions is mostly two numbers: GPA & LSAT. Forcus on the former for the next four years.

The LSAT ain’t going anywhere, and for an obvious strong tester, can be learned. Try graduating with a near 4.0, take the test after graduation, by working for a year, score 17x and watch the merit money roll in.

^ I’ve heard the same but she likes to be prepared and she enjoys it. I don’t think she’s going to get a 4.0 at UChicago. May not be an issue because who knows what will happen.

Bluebayou is 100% correct. It’s unwise to take any time away from studying now for regular college classes. The LSAT can be dealt with far in the future. She should focus now on getting all As in her classes.

@HappyAlumnus and @bluebayou, she’s very busy at UChicago and not doing anything with the LSAT right now. Just looking at options later down the road should she want to pursue LS. And I don’t think she’s getting all A’s at UChicago. Her priorities are academics/social life and trying to gain mastery in all those transitions the first year. She has a suberb head on her shoulders. Maybe that’s why she loves those logic games.

^^and the advice we are giving you is for “later down the road.”

With the exception of a handful of law schools, only two things matter: GPA+LSAT. For the next four years she should focus (almost) exclusively on the former. Later, down the road, in Year 5, she can worry about another standardized test.

Doing well in logic games now is fine, but it is the easiest to “learn” with prep.

Yup, Khan will be doing free LSAT test prep starting in 2018.
