Just wondering what you guys thought of the London School of Economics?

It's specialty school, but nontheless a good school. Its niche in the field of social sciences is similar to Caltech's for science and engineering.

What I want to know is, how does this relate to Penn?

I've applied there as well - without doubt, it's one of, if not THE leading school for the study of economics and wealth.

However, there's a fundamental difference between Wharton and LSE for all those who thought they were similar. At LSE, you would be doing a pure economics course, with the possible inclusion of mathematics and statistics depending on which course you take. You're likely to be part of a very academic-oriented environment, and the non-existence of dorms means that your college life is restricted to class hours.

At Wharton, we'd be doing a more complete business course, complete with finance and marketing and any other electives we choose to take. We all know that academics are surely the base, but there's a lot more to Wharton than that. And the college life couldn't get better. All in all, LSE is more likely to produce academicians, thinkers and economists - whereas at Wharton you're more likely to have the entrepreneurs and executives.

LSE is still the Mecca for economics though, all said and done

Thanks for the input guys, I appreciate it

heeZ... i applied to LSE too..if u are doing economics or political science.. it's a very gd sch

If any of you'll are thinking about it, apply NOW! The UCAS form isn't much of a worry...you just have to key in all the grades you've received and a statement of purpose / teacher recommendation....doesn't cost much either...USD 10 for 1 college or USD 30 for 6 colleges.....why I'm saying this is because admissions are rolling....so if you have a slight inclination, just apply...doesn't hurt

yup.. it's just 5 pounds for ONE college. and there's only 1 personal statement to write... not much hassle. i completed mine in one day
