I was reading on a past message board that the kids from S. Louisiana didn’t get much out of Destination LSU, but parents did. Sounded like the kids didn’t go to the sessions- just hung out with their former classmates who already go there. As for Orientation, there was one in the Spring last year that some kids (maybe honors) got invited to when they could register for classes then several to choose from in the summer. We are attending destination LSU from the Northern part of the state. I hope he gets a chance to attend a class so he can see what 100-800 kids in an auditorium is like. Anyone else get into the honors college with a 32 or under ACT? My son wants to live in the honors dorm, but can’t apply for it until he gets in, I assume. How much did it cost to accept the invitation to attend LSU in 2020?
We are from CT and we are waiting to hear from all colleges and then will visit my Ds top 2-3 in the spring.
Just reading past replies -
OOS Flagship Academic - $25k year (100k over 4 years)
Someone posted they received it at ACT of 32
My child also received it with a ACT 35 / SAT 1560
OOS Academic scholarship - $20+k ($81k over 4 years)
Someone posted receiving it with ACT 31
Texas also has unique scholarships available also.
Regarding the Zell/Hope scholarship qualification since you graduated from a Georgia high school - did you apply to any Georgia universities and could possibly use the funds from that to start your college years and then apply to transfer to LSU after the first two years?
Does LSU offer scholarship monies to transfer students?

Our son applied in October (from Texas) and STILL no admission decision. We are beyond frustrated. Everything has been checked off as received since late October. Anyone else still waiting?
@kksmith77479 wow, since October? Now I’m worried. I applied on December 14 and I’m waiting. But I know people who have applied a week after me and received their decision by now. My GPA isn’t honors level, I’m just trying to get in. This is my first top choice but I’ve been hearing horror stories about people waiting months and having to pull their application out. Is LSU really selective?
@2020Mommy - If your son’s English portion of the ACT was at least 30, if he applied to LSU by December 15th, and if he checked the box on his application that he wanted to live in Ogden Honors House (OHH), then he should have been offered a bed at OHH (https://www.honors.lsu.edu/admissions). You may want to follow up like I did. I was admitted to Ogden after I emailed the dean and also the director of admissions.
LSU is a huge campus, and many of the freshman classes are huge as well, so according to my sister, it can be difficult at first to make friends. One of the great things about OHH is that it’s modeled very much like a Yale residential college which is a college/community within the much larger university. There are many advantages to that kind of college experience. I hope your son can get into OHH. Best of luck to him!
@townavenue - The Georgia Zell/Hope scholarship residency requirements are very strict. A recipient has to reside in Georgia twelve months prior to the first day of class in the Fall semester. I had applied to UGA, GaTech, and Emory, but I withdrew my UGA and Tech applications. I could have stayed with family friends in Georgia once I returned to the states this May, and then technically remained a GA resident, but since my parents moved to Louisiana a few months ago, that may have been a risky and/or even unethical decision, so I decided to withdraw. UGA and Tech both have outstanding International Affairs programs. I visited Tech last year for their Shadow Day event (https://shadowday.iac.gatech.edu/) and loved the school. Also, both UGA and Tech would have accepted most of my dual-enrollment credits, so I could have graduated in two years with a bachelors degree or three years with a masters. Withdrawing wasn’t an easy decision.
In terms of transferring, it’s always best to get merit-based, school-awarded scholarships as a first-year applicant. Transfer students don’t have as many options for scholarships or as much funding available. Zell/Hope scholarships don’t follow students once they attend college outside the state of Georgia.
@Mkaylaj My son’s GPA is nowhere close to honors level and his SAT was average at best…OOS-New Jersey…Hang in there!! Still waiting for the purple package!
From what I’ve heard, there is really no rhyme or reason as to the order of acceptance. My son is not honors either, but should definitely meet criteria to get in. No, I do not believe they are super selective. I’ve heard of cases where they will “want to get to know you better” and ask for additional letters or updated GPA and then they usually accept. But we’ve heard nothing at all which is very frustrating! I’ve heard LSU loses many prospective students due to the lengthy acceptance time. My son has already been accepted at Texas Tech, but LSU is def his first choice.
@mkaylaj - sorry, meant to tag you in my response to you above
We are also awaiting ?, OOS S applied 11/17. Average SAT and GPA, has been accepted already to OU, UTSA, Ole Miss, SHSU and TX State San Marcos. LSU is his top choice. Sincere congrats to all that have been accepted already!
@kksmith77479 no worries! I’m growing more and more anxious by the day. I’m praying for that purple package. I haven’t heard of anyone I know being denied, but a rejection would break my heart
@GhostOfBanquo yeah 32 ACT. On the application it actually asked if you wanted to apply to the Ogden Honors college, not about housing. I haven’t heard of anyone not getting in to LSU. I read posts last year about 23 ACT and 3.0‘s getting in, but it took longer, early April I think. So my theory is this…if you apply and have a 33 ACT+, your app goes directly into the read now stack, at which point they look at you for regular admission, then look at you for honors if you checked the box (we had a friend apply a month after my son and he got in in 7 days to the school and honors). If you have a 30-33, then they have a stack for read/admit now, hold for Ogden Honors if checked. I think it will be later this month or Feb. before they are offered admission to Ogden (as space allows). Then another stack for 24-30 ACT with less priority, then 23 and under. This is totally an educated guess based on what I’ve read and when our friends have gotten in. I hope they hurry up with the Ogden. My son has been accepted at Trinity, Tulsa, USCarolina, Centenary, and still waiting on a couple, so they better get him while he’s still in love. He did ask if they have everything and they said yes, but a decision had not been made.
@2020Mommy …I’m not so sure…seems like a huge hit and miss to me…no rhyme or reason…My son applied on Dec 12 and was accepted on Dec 18th. OOS…1200 SAT and 3.2 GPA…very average…He did not apply for Honors College though…He does come from a well respected private high school…not sure if that helps…
I’ applied around the same time and have yet to hear anything back. I called office of admissions and they say the same “it’s a holistic review process”
@basilwat That pretty much blows a hole in my theory? Congrats on acceptance! I bet there are WAY more applications this year because of the success of the football team. Geaux Tigers!!!
@2020Mommy …LOL…I have been a watching a few schools and I’m amazed at the different levels of acceptance…My son applied at a couple of serious reach schools with kids who practically have perfect scores and some get in and some don’t. I do think those are just safety schools for some with their ridiculously high GPA’s and SAT scores…One school seems so smarmy in the way they accept people…My son applied at TCU and was denied spit spot LOL…He applied ED2 at another school in the Northeast and is hoping he gets in to that one…if not, he will be attending LSU…Still waiting for the purple package to see how much merit money he will get. It’s all so mentally draining!
My son applied on Dec. 13th and received an admission letter via email on Dec. 17th! He is OOS. We were shocked by the quick turn around. But we have received no package, big envelope or anything by mail yet. Does it take a while? Our Fafsa was submittted months ago. He has a 3.8GPA and 28ACT, 1270 SAT, and several APs. He did get a OOS scholarship from Alabama, we are hoping for something better or similar. He does plan to take the SAT once more.
I was advise when I called that packages/any merits would be sent by mid February or so.
