I thought it would be helpful to start another thread about merit aid scholarships. We were fretting about how long it was taking to hear anything - finally today!
Merit aid:
Came in mail today, 12/27/2018, big purple envelope that looks like a big Holiday greeting card. Postmark date 12/19/18.

Flagship scholars NR $20,500
Texas Tigers $3,335
President’s Student Aid Program $1,550
Total $25,385 per year x 4 years
Total tuition $28,627
Ogden letter in mail 12/24/2018
General acceptance in portal 10/26/18
My son’s test scores are significantly lower so he didn’t qualify/apply for Ogden, GPA is 4.5 and rank is in top 20% of class. We were hoping for some merit aid to offset OOS tuition, but my guess is that the test scores will hold more weight than GPA. He didn’t get accepted until December and the higher qualified candidates got admissions notification much earlier. He has earned admission to a private school with not enough merit aid to justify the debt, and honors college at a state school with a small scholarship. He is hoping LSU will offer some help make it possible. Fingers crossed…Financial Aid Dept told us they will send out financial awards 2-3 weeks after admissions packet arrived, so that means any day. But the gap in admission/award packet from @HCopter is a lot longer than that, so I won’t give up hope just yet!
@laxmom2000 - I wouldn’t give up yet. We still haven’t gotten any merit aid either. DS was accepted in odgen’s at time of admittance. 34 ACT & 4.195 GPA. He was emailed the letter that he was invited to apply for the stamps and president’s alumni scholarships. So I assume that he is going to get some merit aid.
@MichiganGeorgia Congrats to your son! He will DEFINITELY get merit aid. My daughter has almost identical stats and we have already received a merit aid offer, but she applied very early. When did he receive the Stamps/President’s scholarship invite? A couple of girls at my daughter’s school received an invitation, but my daughter did not. The scholarship office told me they hadn’t finished sending invitations, so I’m just wondering if your son received his the same time as the girls at my daughter’s school or before/after. I am still holding out hope!
