Merit Scholarships?

Those of you who received merit scholarships from LSU, did you recieve the scholarship offer in your admissions letter, or later?

My daughter got a separate letter a few weeks later. It was the Tiger Scholar for $4,000 (1K per year). It was pretty week compared to other school offers. I guess the budget climate and the TOPS program for Louisiana residents.

I was accepted in October and received a separate letter near the end of November, but that’s because they didn’t start making scholarship decisions until then. The award is also posted in my PAWS account. I was offered the LSU Academic Scholars Award, which is $1500 per year, and then admission to a student aide program that can provide up to $1550 per year. This is drastically less than what I’ve been offered at other public schools here in Louisiana.

Thanks for the info. We expected some kind of offer and were surprised nothing was mentioned in the letter. It sounds like there’s at least a possibility that an offer will be made later on.

No problem. My friends who also qualified for scholarships received their letters a few weeks after they were accepted as well.

@beolein-- thanks. The award was there. Suprisingly, the award for out of state student LSU Academic Scholars is a lot higher than the in-state academic scholars award. I guess the rationale is that the out of state tuition is so much higher. With this award, the cost of attendance at LSU would be the same for my son at an instate school in Texas.

Not only is OOS tuition much higher, but we in-state students also have the TOPS program that pays for most of our tuition if we meet certain GPA, course, and ACT requirements in high school and maintain a certain GPA in college. Regardless, congrats to your son!
