LSU vs. FSU?

I'm torn between LSU and FSU. Both would end up being about the same price, and if there ends up being a difference, it won't be big enough to be a game-changer. I'm in-state for FSU, plus I get Bright Futures, but with LSU I know I'll get a decent amount of scholarships, at least enough to get me to the price of in-state tuition.

I've been a die-hard LSU fan since birth, so my loyalties lie there. I visited FSU and loved it, but the whole time I felt sort of like a traitor.... I don't think I could ever truly become a Nole. I know it sounds stupid to base a school off of their football team, but I really didn't feel like I belonged because of it. I know for a fact that if LSU ever had the opportunity to play FSU, I'd side with LSU no question, and that bothers me a little.

LSU is about a twelve hour drive away (although I have tons of family in New Orleans, so I could always go there in an hour if I really felt homesick or just wanted to get away), FSU is about five hours, which I think is the perfect distance (I could get home for the weekend if needed, and it's halfway between my hometown and New Orleans, which I go to at least four times per year).

The thing about LSU that worries me is that first off, I won't know anyone there, besides a few older cousins and family friends. That scares me a little, because I know that LSU has a ton of in-state kids (plus Texas), and I'm just nervous that they'll all already have their friend groups established, and I won't have anyone.

But with FSU, I'll know too many people. My high school is very large, and in most years, at least a quarter of the class goes to FSU. I visited FSU a couple weeks ago, and saw 10 graduates of my high school within the first hour. I don't like that, I want to have a new start in college.

Does either school have a significant lead on academics?

By the way, UF is out-- there is just no way I could be a Gator, even if their academics are better.

That may depend on your intended or possible major(s).

FSU is known for being a better school overall than LSU
UF is obviously generally regarded as better than both

If you are not a football player, you shouldn’t make one of the most important decisions in your life based on a sport you don’t play.

Well said, Informative.

No, I see where you’re coming from, but I’ve visited UF (with an open mind) and I honestly didn’t like it. I couldn’t see myself going there, and the football just added on to that.

it kind of confuses me when you said that FSU has too many people you know, but you are hesitate about LSU, which would be like a whole new world for you. I think you contradict yourself there. And when thinking academically, FSU seems to be a better choice overall. However, if you really don’t think you would feel comfortable in FSU, then you might want to think again. You’re about to spend 4 or something years of your life without your parents and probably are going to be out of your comfort zone, so you want to make sure that you are comfortable and happy of where you’re going.

But just like the person above said, you shouldn’t base the starting point of your career life on your favorite sports team.

Maybe look around for more option and find a middle ground between the two?

I would not go to UF over FSU for many majors. Choose carefully.
