My son received this email and we found it confusing. Initially, we were thinking it meant he was moving on, but upon reading again, it provided no info on the finalist interview, so now we think this does not mean he is a finalist. The sentence about not providing answers about applicants was strange also. May the finalist invites will go out later. Thoughts? Anyone else get this?
Thank you for your interest in the Lyceum Scholars Program at Clemson University. We are very impressed with your application and we are pleased to tell you that you have been selected as a semi-finalist for a $10,000 Lyceum Scholarship.
Finalists will be invited to participate in an in-person or Skype interview with Lyceum faculty. We regret that the volume of applications does not allow us to answer questions about specific applicants. We expect to make final scholarship decisions in early March.
My son did not do the Lyceum. But, It sounds to me like yours is still in contention as a semi-finalist, but that you need to stand by to see if you get an interview…
D18 received same email. Is it safe to assume she at least gets accepted at this point?
Has anyone heard about the interview process or next steps? Our daughter received the same email which was a bit confusing. Has anyone interviewed yet?
We have heard nothing and have been wondering. No email or call about interviewing and the email mentioned decisions being made in early March. I assumed that meant for the scholarship, not just for finalist. Anyone else with information?
I’m aware of one student interviewing. Call or email the office and ask.
I had a friend who has already interviewed and been notified she was chosen for the Lyceum scholarship. I was under the impression all interviews happened in person or over skype about 1-2 weeks ago. She found out last week.
The student I know had her interview today.
It is just odd because the email made it sound like an interview was imminent, but he was never contacted for an interview. I think it stinks that the wording got everyone’s hopes up.
@ajwomic First of all, don’t miss the fact that it’s a huge honor to make the cut to semi-finalist from the over 600 applicants! Also, I wouldn’t give up hope just yet. I know that all the finalists haven’t been selected yet, and in past years there have been a couple who were contacted at later dates when a student decided not to participate in the program or attend another college. Other semi-finalists were offered the spots. It’s also possible that your student could be offered a spot for the Lyceum Fellows program (taking some of the classes) as well. If your son is truly interested, have him contact the office and talk with them. I’m not saying that something would definitely happen, but you never know!
@Baxter126, You are right and it is a huge honor. And if he does not get an interview, that may make his decisions easier as he has a great opportunity at another school. Lyceum was what was keeping Clemson in the running. I love Clemson and could totally see my ds there, but there have been quite a few times in this process with them that were disorganized or confusing. For example, my ds did the coalition app and sent his transcript through the app. They never received it. When we called, they said, “Yeah, we can’t seem to get them that way, have the counselor send it.” It makes me wonder how many thought they were applied and were not. Then to get this email worded in such a way that several people read it and were confused, but said not to call for clarification was another strike. If he goes to Clemson, I know he will have a great experience. I just think the lack of clarity and transparency is unfortunate. We believe everything happens for a reason, so we are really ok with not getting it. I have been praying for God to shut the doors that need to be shut and open those that need to be opened . So, ok with the outcome, just frustrated with the process, if that makes sense!
