lying on apps

What happens if you lie by mistake??

Like lets say you went to whatever club for 9th and 10th grade regularly...and in 11th grade u went ONE time...would that one time still count as going to the club??

Also..what happens if you do not kno how many hours per week you were in the club..what if you just guesstimate ??

yes, what if it is an under-the-table job? i had a pretty time consuming job as a camp counselor, but it was all under the table and no paperwork because the director was a teacher of mine. the camp is actually a nike camp, so what if admissions calls nike? it'll look like i'm lying because i won't be listed with nike.

reemy: the answer to your first question is: no that would not count unless you put "1" in the weeks per year slot.

For your next question, try to make it as accurate as possible. If it is a club, it shouldn't be that hard to figure out. Think about it this way, if someone from your school applies to the same school as you and has the same club on their transcript and put far less hours on their app, the college is going to know that you are exaggerating.

Lying about a the number of years is still no where near as bad as lying completely about doing something one didn't... such as ivyplanter was considering. There's no integrity in that. Plus, the inconsistency.. it would come up somehow. Remember ECs, they like consistency, dedication.. not.. a bombastic.. list of things you might did once or twice.

"Under the table" jobs mean you're not filing your tax returns and not paying any taxes due. Never mind college admissions - that's a federal crime. (And your employer is also violating the law by not withholding taxes from your salary.) Not something I'd be anxious to report to make me "look good."

is this considered lying??.....

i was on varsity soccer in 11th grade and went to all the games and practices..but i missed one important meeting and my soccer coach did not give me an award and i think took me off the roster(not 100% sure)

well..if he did take me off the roster and i still put it down, is that lying..bcuz i did participate in it until the last few days...

Do any of these kids ever think about just DOING some of the activities they are weaving lies about? There is so much energy expended just on creating webs of lies...you would think all of that effort and creativity could be put to better use.

What happens if you actually participated in the sport for two meeting, and then you got cut out? Could you put that on the transcript?

I remember the case of that girl from NJ whose father was a superior court judge and was homeschooled.
Here's the link:

And then there is also this one:

<a href="http://www.everything2.com/index.pl?node_id=1412332%5B/url%5D">http://www.everything2.com/index.pl?node_id=1412332</a></p>

I'm just planning on exaggerating the color of my belt on my sports... that's all...

Here's a follow on regarding Blair Hornstine:

Apparently she decided (or her parents decided) that she should go out of the country to go to school--and so went to St. Andrews in Scotland.

She studied classics--and now there is a small scholarship fund in her name for people who want to go into that area of student at the school:

<a href="http://www.st-andrews.ac.uk/classics/currentstudents/travel.shtml%5B/url%5D">http://www.st-andrews.ac.uk/classics/currentstudents/travel.shtml</a></p>

(I'm glad she's done well--but was it really necessary that the scholarship fund, which was a gift from her or her parents, be named for her?)

What does that have to do with lying on apps?

Hornstine originally lied on her Harvard application about committing plagiarism and got her acceptance revoked as per this article.

Indian schools do not have transcripts. They just hand out report cards. So if we dont have transcripts and awards written behind it, I suppose the colleges will get suspicious?

Lol, the biggest lie of all was that girl who faked being a Stanford student.

That has nothing to do with admissions, but it was interesting anyway.

wow that gina grant girl is crazy/dumb as hell. how can she expect no one to figure out she murdered her own parents??

Saying you were on varsity soccer is not lying. If you were taken off the roster, and the college checks, you can counter with the facts, and if you have any articles from the local paper, etc., mentioning you that will help.

Don't bother. Whether you're a black belt or a yellow belt won't change the admissions decision in the least. But it could get you in trouble. Not worth it.

I second Chedva

I'm very disgusted by the idea of someone flirting with lying on their applications. The idea of an application is accurately and fairly depict who you are. Do you want to know ALL THROUGHOUT life that you cheated your way and deserved nothing? I'm sure that's hundreds of kids out there who would deserve that spot (even if you DID get it). One way or another you're going to get caught and I sincerely hope the worst punishment is given to you, ivyplanter. Hopefully, you're rejected from every college you apply to if you follow through.

Why bother? I assure you that the color of your belt isn't going to affect your admission decision.
