M.S. marketing?

I'm going to finish up a b.s. in finance in May 2010 at Texas A&M, and Im worried about my job prospects with the recession. Should I cram for the GMAT and at least apply to A&M's m.s. marketing program, or should I just devote all my energy into trying to find a job, and maybe go back for an mba later if I feel like it? Also, if I did apply for A&M m.s. marketing, I'd likely be a splitter. The average GPA/GMAT is 3.6/615. My GPA in the last 60 hours is only about 3.0 (some of this has to do with the finance department curving down, and a&m would know about their own policies), but I'm willing to bet I could break 650ish on the GMAT.

A&M has a really good network and the Texan economy is doing a lot better than most places, so you should be able to find a job. An MS in marketing won’t be as useful as an MBA from somewhere better because you would miss out on a lot of networking which some argue is the biggest reason to go to grad school for business. I would focus on finding the best job you can right now and think about an MBA in a few years.

Any thoughts on an a master in Marketing Research? I have a friend who graduated this May with a Business undergrad degree and still cannot find work. They are thinking of getting the marketing research grad degree because that seems to be their area of interest at the moment. This person as no work experience or intern experience.
