M&T application question

How do admissions officers read M&T applicants? Do they read all 3 essays, or do they read only the "why upenn" essay and then hand off the other two essays to other officers? Will it help my normal chances to apply to M&T?

Thanks in advance :D

bump!

So I don’t know too much about this (the people over at M&T keep the process itself and acceptance rates very, very quiet, probably because they don’t want to discourage applicants - I hear that knowing the statistics is a little frightening).

From what I’ve heard from students, the process likely involves the following:

 1. The application goes through the general admissions officer, which, in conjunction with school admissions officers, determine admissions overall. They’ll likely read your Common App essay and your Why Penn essay.
 2. From there, it goes to the Wharton/Engineering admissions representatives (in some order), who also likely use the Common App and Why Penn essays.
 3. At this point, I’m pretty sure there’s an M&T admissions committee composed of several people, who will read all three essays.

I wouldn’t be surprised if the first two steps involved a reading of the M&T essay as well. No way to know. Of course much of this is speculation, but the process probably mirrors this in some way.

Best of luck in the spring.
