MA in teaching or the subject you plan to teach?

Hi, I'm a junior at the George Washington University. I have a major in English and two minors in Philosophy and Creative Writing. Upon looking for a grad school, I am unable to decide which is better - to get a Masters in Teaching English, or a Masters of English degree. I plan to teach at the high school level, but am considering an eventual doctorate in English. Yet, even with a doctorate, I most likely plan to stay at the high school level. Does anyone have any words of wisdom regarding this subject? Which degree would give me the best skills for teaching high school? Which woul allow for the best salary? What are the best schools to go to for teaching/english? Thanks in advance for any input.

I'm not sure if this is how it works in every state, but at least for my home state, you need to get a teaching credential before you can teach in high schools. The teaching credential's purpose is to teach you how to teach, essentially, something that can decently substitute the MA in Teaching. I would think that the Masters in English would give you the upper hand in that most high school teachers don't have a Master's and it would help enhance your starting salary because you have more than just a BA.
