Mac 2014!

I’m currently thinking women’s studies, anthropology, history…something in that vein. But I’m very open to that changing.

anarchoveg- UChicago and Macalester are two of my top choices as well! HA! Go figure. I really just learned about Mac, but I think I could really like it. I do like the more international focus, plus I’d like to major in neuroscience and cognitive studies, and Mac is one of the few colleges to offer the major that I’m interested in applying to.

I applied Early Decision, and I am dying waiting!!! Does anyone know if the notifications are mailed the 15th, or possibly even before?

Responding to some of the questions, concerns & comments raised here:
-you’ll be ready to move off campus by jr year, or maybe even sooner. Have had three daughters go through college, now, and each one was happy to change up the setting
-St. Paul/Mn is a terrific city, and my d, who grew up in Manhattan, found the affordability and accessibility of cultural life a welcome change, as well as providing a wonderful widening of the horizon beyond campus (see point a)
-the observation of its being an urban place with less hipster pretention is spot on - lots of diversity and exploration with a lot less self absorption, seems to me
-faculty truly is invested in the lives of students…d, an 09 grad, is employed happily in the area, thanks not to the career placement office (which was unimpressive) but rather to the personal involvement of some great profs

deegie, thanks for your post! It was very helpful.

When I first found that that lots of upperclassmen live off-campus, I was a bit taken aback. Where was the sense of community that I was seeking with a smaller college if 20% of students lived off-campus? But then I realized that a) living off-campus is probably something I’d like to try, and b) it doesn’t necessarily have an adverse effect on campus life if the students are still active participants in ECs, etc.

I’m applying RD.

I applied under the EDII deadline, but due to a mix-up an admissions officer moved my app for review under the EDI. I’m really, incredibly nervous about getting in as my interview was sub-par and my transcript isn’t up to Mac standards, but we’ll see :)

I’ll apply for RD. I think I messed up my interview with Mr.Colee though :S

My letter came Saturday morning, and I’m accepted!!! The envelope has “Yes Macalester” on both sides! The letter itself was pretty nice, and it actually seemed really personal.

Congrats, rebeccah!
