I have to buy a new laptop. I really am unsure of whether I should buy a PC or a Mac. I was looking into buying a Dell, but the MacBook seems pretty nice. I'm majoring in journalism and a lot of my classes are gonna focus on new media, design and maybe photography. Which computer would handle those needs well? I also need a computer that will last and I know Macs aren't as vulnerable to viruses. Which would you choose?

Before buying check with your college. Colleges have deals with the companies under which you can get student discounts when buying a computer. Price is usually cheaper than buying retail and often provides an extended warranty for little or no charge. It may have deals for both PCs and Macs. Usually you can find what you can buy on-line at the college’s site.

As to whether to buy a PC or Mac, that has been the great debate for years. PCs are undoubtedly cheaper for the same extent of power and features. I have become bias. Had a PC for years and still do for work but at home I now have a mac and am now conviced it beats the snot out of Bill Gates.

In any event, you will learn that there is no computer “that will last.” Many will actually run fine for years but after three years any one that you have will become obsolete in comparison to new ones.

^^^My school offers discounts for both. When I said a computer that will last, I didn’t mean one that would last forever. I should have rephrased and asked out of the two which computer is known to last longer.

How well you use your computer predicts how long your computer will last, imo. Some people don’t know how to use a computer and take care of it so yeah…

If you’re a hipster you have to get a Mac

Linux beat all of them.
but get a mac if u r not a linux person. (at least its still unix based system)

I used to be close friends with a guy who worked with computers in the UK and he said PC was better for work and college related material. I don’t necessarily know why, but I believe him because he was very, very smart with computers.
