I need u guys' inputs. which one should i get for ucla?

What do you plan to do? I personally plan to take a PC desktop to play games and then a macbook pro just to lounge around. actually i might leave it at home

either is fine, really, just get something light enough that it wont strain you to have to carry it around everywhere.

^ Yeah seriously. I was thinking of getting a netbook just to bring around with me for classes.

I went from a PC to a Mac after it crashed. Best. Decision. Ever.

well, i kinda wanna game for a bit. I have been using PC(windows xp) for way too long. I dont know if i should go for a mac…

Opps, I meant for laptop hahaha. it is basically windows xp vs mac…

Opps, i meant like windows xp or mac laptop ;X

I have a netbook I bring to all my classes. it is nice that it is 2 lbs but at the same time it doesn’t work very well in some of the big lecture halls… or the basement type classrooms. The network adapter but be really cheap… lol Overall it is convenient to use as a second computer but I am actually looking to buy a new computer before school starts!

I’m debating between the macbook pro I5 or another Pc I5 or I7. Ucla has the 2.53 dual core on a huge discount. Mac must be trying to get rid of them because the I5’s are out… Anyone have experience w/ the I5’s??

Evan! Was it difficult to transition from Pc to Mac??

Macbook Pro 13". You won’t regret this expenditure.

It’s not hard to transition, it’s just different. The decision is completely up to personal preference. I personally just wanted a change from Windows, and I don’t regret it.

And XP, really? XP is almost 10 years old, which is an eternity in the tech world. Unless you have old hardware, I see no reason to run XP. Most computers today come with 4GB+ ram, so you need 64bit anyways. Win 7 is pretty decent IMO.

I just got my first MacBook Pro (the new gen, lower end i5) and I really do love this machine. There are plenty of programs that you can easily download off websites, the battery is really cool so I’d bet that you wouldn’t need to bring your charger to classes, and it’s just an overall new experience. There is a lot of little things to get used to but I personally think that’s the fun part. This doesn’t mean I’m anti-windows or anything, I just like the simplicity of the Mac and how there’s no Windows Decay or anything. If you have the money to dish out on a pricey Macbook, I’d go for it!

Arkacy- so you have the 15 inch MacBook I5? How much does this weigh? I was hoping for a 13 inch I5 but I don’t think they make them.

TheHutt- have you tried the I5? how does your MacBookpro compare?

I have a Thinkpad which runs PC and I really like it a lot… I really think that brand of PC you get really reflects how the PC will turn out for you because I know some people that have Dells and their laptops have already died/ are deteriorating due to hardware malfunctions.

Macs look really nice though, but personally I think it’s too expensive for what you get.

transpublic- your comp is Lenovo right? which model???

I’ve had my thinkpad T60 for all 4 years - still running strong (with a fan replacement, new HD & new RAM stick)

That is good to know the manufacturer is still holding up.

I’ll be going to check out Apple vs the Lenovo Thinkpads tomorrow. I’d like to see them both in person and hopefully that will narrow it down. The Mac I5 is so expensive and heavy. Prob not practical to carry to class. The Thinkpad X210 is very light- 3.18lbs but hopefully it isn’t too small.

I already have a netbook (& a Satellite toshiba) but I need a better laptop that is fast and top quality & bigger for writing papers etc.

@Shaneee

Yeah, if you don’t think you’re going to be running many programs on your Macbook like video editing + music, I’d go for the 13 inch. If the 13 inch had an i5, I’d definitely have gotten that one because that size is convenient.

My after perspective of getting the 15 inch; I really don’t mind the size of this thing. It’s very pretty looking and is light enough to carry around in my Incase Sleeve. It’s all your preference though, but about 5 of my friends have 15 inch Macbook Pros and 1 friend has the 13 inch.

Good luck :)

@shawneee - I have a lenovo thinkpad t61 (got it 2 yrs ago, no problems at ALL except for it getting hot… so then i open it up and dust it). But yeah… all the new thinkpads are all so nice, thin, and fancy. I like the thinkpad design, even though it’s nothing special XD and I’m a design freak. It’s very understated and classic - adds character imo.

Thank you so much for your input Arkacy & transpublic you guys both helped a lot. :P)
