Does anyone know if Carleton's students primarily use Mac or Windows computers? I'm trying to decide what i should get for a new computer.

[What You Need In A Computer - SCIC](http://scic.carleton.edu/wiki/index.php?title=What_You_Need_In_A_Computer)

FWIW, my daughter had a Windows computer.

thanks fireflyscout.

My freshman son has a MacBook. No reported problems.

I have Windows and have been fine. From what I’ve seen, there are probably slightly more people who use a Mac, but plenty of people have both, so go with whatever you’re comfortable with.

every computer at carl has both software on it

I’d say there is a 50-50 split which is higher than the general population. My advice would be to get a mac laptop and drop the extra money to pick up a copy of windows and dual boot (or virtualize) like the Carleton lab computers. You should especially consider a mac if you are thinking about a computer science major as all of the computer science labs are osx exclusively and the terminal is easier to work with. That being said either computer will work just fine. I personally made it through Carleton doing most of my work on a desktop with a netbook for when I absolutely had to work away from my room.
