Macalester Class of 2020 RD

I got in! I also got the highest scholarship even though I am not a National Merit Finalist. I am so surprised. My financial aid package looks great, better than other colleges I have applied to even though Macalester is notorious for bad aid packages.

Accepted with DeWitt Wallace Distinguished! My financial aid looks amazing as well. I’m so happy right now.

Congrats to everyone who got accepted. Did anyone get any communication about visiting the school? I thought I had read in an older thread about an offer for a paid visit.

Here’s info about the sampler weekends for accepted students.
http://www.macalester.edu/admittedstudents/samplers/schedule/

Thinking we’ll try to get out there 4/7 and 4/8.

S was accepted with a Wallace Distinguished Scholarship ($17k)!
Stats as follows: 33 ACT, 4.72 GPA/5 (weighted with 1 pt for honors/AP/IB/DE), salutatorian, significant ECs.

Decisions posted! I was denied. On the rejection letter they say that this year they only had 500 spots for 6,000 students that applied. That boils down to an 8.3% acceptance rate which in my mind seems CRAZY for a school that generally has about a 35%. Oh well. Congrats to anyone who did make it in!!

@intrepidiowa sorry you didn’t get in and best of luck with your other options. It’s and 8.3% attendance rate. They probably still accepted about $35%, but most people who get accepted don’t attend.

Rejected… This kind of hurts, seeing as my stats were well above average (2250 SAT which is well above the 75% percentile - now I know scores aren’t all, but still). Makes me question the possibility of getting accepted anywhere else where my scores aren’t that competitive. Congrats to all those accepted, however!

@lexluthor5 thank you!! I really truly have my fingers crossed! But yeah idk the way their letter phrases it makes it seem like there only 500 people they could’ve accepted from regular decision. It would make sense if ‘500’ accounted for those who wouldn’t attend but that’s not how it is phrased.

On the wait list!!! I’m so surprised. I didn’t think I would be considered with a SAT like mine (1890 superscored).

Yes, @lexluthor5 is right. Mac’s student body is 2000 students, so that’s ~500 per enrolling class. Their yield is about 25% (percentage of accepted students that enroll), so they probably accept about 2000 students, which would be in the neighborhood of their previous acceptance rates.

See [2014-2015 Common Data Set](https://www.macalester.edu/ir/institutionaldata/cds.pdf) for recent stats.

I got in with 18k/ year scholarship! Does anyone know where we can find need based aid info?

I got wait-listed. I’m really happy, but it also means I have to wait more.

@vellichor It should be in the portal with your admission. You need to scroll to the bottom of the page where you found your acceptance letter.

My S was rejected… ouch. His stats were competitive (2240, 4.2, 32), but just average EC’s. His gf with lower numbers and better ECs did get in… she had whatever they were looking for. Happy for her! Congratulations to everyone who got it. Macalester is a great school in an amazing city.

@GramsOfBismuth under my admit letter is a link to my scholarship, and on the pdf with my merit scholarship info it says “If you have applied for additional need-based financial aid through Macalester’s Financial Aid
Office and all required aid forms have been received, you will receive a financial aid eligibility
notification. Your Wallace Scholarship will be incorporated into your financial aid award.”

Any idea how to decipher this?

@vellichor Interesting. I received my letter but I guess you have to wait a little longer? Sorry that probably didn’t help much :frowning:

Denied. Oh well. Mac’s a great place so congrats to all who did get in.

Thanks @GramsOfBismuth ! I guess the waiting begins. Maybe it will be mailed in my acceptance packet…

Rejected :(( it really hurts because this was the first college I’ve heard back from and I wasn’t expecting to hear from any college this soon. This has just terrified me even more since I mostly applied to small liberal arts colleges. Hopefully in 3 weeks I’ll get good news from the others. Congratulations to everyone else! Mac is a great school =D>

Accepted with a 40,000$ scholarship (although it’s divided into 4 years, making it 10,000$ per year :-/ )
Anyhow, congrats to those who were accepted, and for those waitlisted or rejected, DON’T LOSE HOPE. There will be bumps along the way, but in the end, there will be light. Good things will happen! Trust me.
