which one will you go to?
Macaulay for its free dorm, free mac, 7500 to study abroad, free tuition or will you go to Vassar College?

Any financial aid from Vassar? Can you pay the balance?

yea…full ride

you got full ride at Vassar?? Then why still bother youself thinking about this?.. Vassar, hand down.

Is the full ride at Vassar for all 4 years? I thought Vassar usually did annual aid. That said, I’d have to agree with jellyya!

Do you mean ‘full ride’ as in you are paying nothing for four years? Or do you mean ‘full ride’ for tuition only? If it’s the second, remember that room & board can cost about $20K/year. My own D got into Williams & Cornell as well as Macaulay. We’re still waiting news on financial aid, but we were extremely impressed by Macaulay. Good luck!

^Room and board for the 2009-2010 school year was $9,540. That’s per year, not per semester.

If you were my kid, and we could handle the balance due at Vassar, I would encourage you to go to Vassar.

Yeah, it’s about $10K/year including fees. $40K is not a WHOLE lot of debt, but if I were you, I’d check out what the monthly payments would be. For instance, I had to borrow $10K for grad school, and I have to pay $120/month. Now you can adjust the rates depending on various factors, but you can see that $40K is a fair amount of money to borrow. Do you have to take the loan yourself or will your parents help? Remember that everyone’s financial circumstances differ, so some people may consider $40K of debt to be no big deal. Others, like me, would consider that substantial. I’m not saying no to Vassar; I’m just saying be careful and remember it’s your own decision based on your own finances.

Someone has to go against the grain. I’d take Macauley in a heartbeat. Vassar is a good school that is mostly known because of once being one of the seven sisters, while Macauley is a new program dedicated to returning academic excellence to the CUNY system. Similar to choosing between Graduate work at Columbia or being a Rhodes scholar. Both are great, but there really isn’t a choice here.
